Maybe this will help some poor soul.

I haven't looked at Indexing Options since I fired up the new desktop w/ W7 over a year ago.

Well, I now have an iPod and iTunes. So, I decided to put a song title in the windows START -> Search box and nothing shows up. I put in a word that would be found in various word docs IN ADDITION (i.e. as well) to song titles (or metadata). Only NON-music shows up in the search. But, if I click on "see more results" INSTANTLY all matching songs now show up.

Hmm. Why won't they show up in the Start menu search results mini-window?

I checked indexing options and all libraries are checked but NOT the D:\Libraries itself, just the 4 main folders underneath and all their contents/subfolders.

I rebuilt the index. I checked the file types and ALL are checked.

I decided to see which part of Libraries would find stuff. IOW, C:\User\Me\music, public, etc. I found that things in the C:\music/doc/pictures will find stuff.

I searched for rare words within the CONTENTS of my D:\Libraries\Documents\MSWORD folder and those are found no problem.

I then created a file called Colleen.txt in my D:\Libraries folder itself (i.e. not within a subfolder, but the Libraries folder itself). Search finds it. Wow.

Basically, after adding a colleen.txt to various Music libraries (C : and D : ) NOW music titles and music metadata WILL be found. It did NOT do this for an hour while I was screwing around. In fact, the # of indexed items before and after reindexing was the same 9,xxx or thereabouts. It seems as soon as I put a .txt file in a library that was not correctly indexing, now it causes all music-related stuff to be found.

It seems that indexing had to be working as the see more results (equivalent to Libary SEARCH BOX in the upper-right corner) had stuff show with zero hesitation. But, not in the main search mini-windows until I started creating files in various library folders.

It is possible I simply didn't wait long enough, but it's now working instantaneously whereas prior, I waited 5-10 seconds and since no new results showed, then I clicked on the "see more results" link.

Your guess is as good as mine.
