The Sims 3 has stopped working

Hey Guys,

This has been bugging me for quite some time and I really dont know whats happening with The Sims 3 on my laptop. I've just recently brought my laptop so its new and The Sims 3 is still crashing on it, Im not sure if its because I have so many expansion packs on it but when I brought it I made sure it met all of the requirements to play The Sims 3. I havent tried to fix it because I honestly have no idea what im doing and I dont want to wreck anything on my computer so I thought I'd ask you guys for help. All that happens is I'll play for a while, over an hour and randomly it'll get laggy and minimise out of The Sims 3 with a message that says The Sims 3 is not working and that Windows is trying to find a solution to fix the problem but Windows never does and it keeps happening, the only option is a button that says close program so I've got no choice but to click it. Mostly it happens when I go into Create A Sim, if Im not really really quick then it'll crash while I'm creating my Sims and most of the time I try and make one really quickly and I never get time to make anymore so its really quite annoying. But it also crashes outside of Create A Sim, just not as quickly as it lets me play it for a while before it happens. If anyone has any idea whats going on that would be amazing haha, if you need anymore info just ask because I really would like to fix this!
Oh and I have all of the Sims 3 Expansion Packs except Master Suite and Diesel, so I've got 16 including the Base Game.

Since you have mentioned that it happens after you play for a while, I am thinking it may be a temperature issue most likely.

Any chance you could direct an air source into the laptop and see if it still happens with a bigger airflow?

Hmmm I suppose I could try that. But even if I go to Create-A-Sim as soon as I turn my laptop on and get into the Sims, so my laptop isnt hot yet, it crashes within the first 10 minutes of creating my sim.

Okay, no problem, In that case do you know if your graphic drivers are updated? You could go and download the most recent ones from your laptops manufacterer website. If they are nto available, you can download them directly from AMD as the recent drivers offer support for the 7600M line of laptop graphics.

Have you tried turning your graphics settings down a notch? You seem to be using an awful lot of RAM. You might want to check your memory too just to make sure its o.k.. Heres a link on how to run Windows Memory Diagnostics.

Im pretty sure I downloaded the right graphic drivers from the HP website and I turned down my graphic settings and used the Memory Diagnostics tool and thats all fine but The Sims still isnt working. It still crashed this time but it took longer and would freeze and then I would get task manager up and it would start working again but when I got back into it my sim was black and red and just not normal at all then it froze again and so on. Weird.. perhaps a corrupted installation, have you tried reinstalling the game?

It may be heat related.
I do know quite a few who have had crashing issue due to heat and forcing Vsync fixed it for them though.

Sims3 has no setting to limit framerate, (VSYNC) so the game just runs at full throttle constantly which can cause things to run hotter than they need to.

You can try forcing Vsync to help here.

Unfortunately, with your setup Im not exactly sure the best way to force it. Since you can't simply go into the Nvidia control panel and force it on.

Hopefully someone else will be more knowledgeable with your particular HD4000/AMD setup that can help a bit better.
I know there used to be a 3rd party tool for AMD GPUs (D3D Overider I think) used to force VSYNC, but Im not sure if it works with integrated or still needed.
