How to Apply Custom Themes in Windows 7

   Information
This will show you how to apply a custom theme from deviantART as your theme in Windows 7.

Here's How:
1. First you will need to click on the Download button below to download and install either the 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) Universal Theme Patcher (auto installer) below for your 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7.
32-bit:

Download

64-bit:

Download

2. When downloaded, unrar the file using winrar, and run the exe.

3. Select your user interface language

4. Click OK

5. The click yes when this box appear.

6. The you need to patch these 3 files (As you see i already have mine patched) Click the patch outside each file, after patching them all reboot.

7. Now you need a custom theme, i will advise you to check these out:
New Orleans Saints by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Aero Evolution 1.0 by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Majestic Excellence by ~sergiogarcia9 on deviantART

Midnight by ~MrGRiM01 on deviantART

My DA profile: sergiogarcia9 on deviantART
Mr Grim's DA profile: MrGRiM01 on deviantART

   Note
You can also find more themes on Deviantart, but make sure they work with windows 7.

They need to be unzipped first.

8. Now navigate to the Windows folder, find the folder called resources and click on the themes folder. (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes)
These are the files that has to be placed in the folder:

6dsthk.png

9. Then paste the folder and theme provided, then the theme should appear in your personalization menu :)

NOTE: In most themes there are only 2 files (a folder and a theme file)

Good luck :)

I replied to your post on another thread (http://www.sevenforums.com/themes-styles/105610-uxtheme-patched-how-restore.html#post1010410).

As I said on that thread, try running a Command Prompt with administrative privileges and typing the command: sfc /scannow

Instead of patching your files you'd be safer to install UXStyle which does the exact same thing but without patching system files.

I've always wanted to come in here and say this. I am living proof that this does NOT work what so ever. It does NOTHING!...And always does nothing. It's suppose to allow themes on Windows 7 basic except guess what? It does NOT. I've tried it countlass times. Infact one time I did it, it ended up crashing mys sytem to the point where I had to wait 24 hours to turn my computer on because the power button stopped working. That's what it did for me. Only thing it does....is exactly what I just said. And the error messege that comes up exactly the same as it would if it wasnbt patched. The error saying the theme isn't supported on the operating system. And I patched it "word for word" exactly how that says. I even tried other programs and such that is "suppose" to help patch the system for basic users to apply themes. But NONE work. This never worked. And I "love" how people say it does when it doesn't. I guess I am the only one that is telling the truth? If you want I can also printscreen proof showing off the error message.

You need Home Premium to change themes, you're just spinning your gears unless you want a basic or high contrast theme, that's all you get with basic, sorry.

Themes do not install properly ??

I've patched uxtheme in Windows XP before, I'm technically proficient, and this ain't my first rodeo.

I wouldn't be asking here unless I've thoroughly read and understood instructions in the tutorial..

I used the Universal Theme Patcher for 64 bit edition, ran it as Administrator, rebooted, placed custom theme files in
%SystemDrive%Windows\Resources\Themes ..

Selected the theme in Personalization menu, and it applies classic look, start menu and taskbar.. The wallpaper shows up.. The gadgets work fine, however ..

I even stopped and restarted the themes service, and nothing..

The themes I tried to install are Neon Windows 7, and Black Line in the Horizon.. I'd rather patch the system files then install and run some random service. Any ideas? If anything, I hope this helps in the development of these awesome themes, the default themes are girly.

Thanks much, you guys rock!

OK... my first post is a question on this forum has to do with what I'm guessing is a problem associated with the UXtheme patch on my Laptop with Win7-HomePrem 64 on it.

Ever since installing that patch (and nothing else), Win7 tries to run an "update" every time I reboot. I wait about 5 minutes while it thinks about it and then that update fails and it says "reverting to original...yadda yadda yadda"...

Perhaps I've applied the wrong uxtheme.dll patch?
Anyone else have this problem and can point me to my booboo?

I'm going to unpatch, and rerun the patch as admin, that's one step I may have overlooked.
I'll report success/failure, but thought I'd throw this question out there just in case there's an "ah-ha" I'm missing.

This isn't my first rodeo either... :)

I'm really hoping for a 'boom goes the dynamite' ending on this. :p

Welcome to the forum,

I don't know about that update.

Personally I prefer this method,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/34579-enabling-custom-themes-windows-7-a.html

No patching involved, just installs a service.

I would run this first, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

to fix the files that were patched.

Thanks for the reply derekimo (and for the welcome) :). The patcher I used was the "UniversalThemePatcher-x64" that was recommended in another thread here on installing custom themes... I'll look it up and link it here in a sec.

Edit: Here it is.

I'll give that option you linked there a try.
The UniversalThemePatcher has an 'undo' function, so, that's nice. :)
