I have read the articles and no the steps...

I am hestitant resolving online...I simply wanted to supply Micorosoft with a new product key.
My options in control panel/system are go online /or change product key. I elected to produce a new product key. When I give the product key I get "not genuine" which is false because on other computers in our shop I always get that message 'not genuine' and I need to telephone in/ and in all instances my new product keys are accepted. (sidebar we upgraded and/or changed our old Xp computers to Windows 7 pro thus my experience with product keys)

With this computer over the last two years I have made hardware changes and so forth -and the activation was always 'active' as I checked on it now and then. I don't know what happened recently...thus my attempt to use a new fresh product key. I have no option to phone in. I attempted to run slui.exe and slui.exe 4 and nothing happened.

I have a working machine that over the years we have fine tuned it and this nag to activate is troubling in that I don't want 'Online Resolution' messing with our clean system. Just want to surrender to Microsoft a new fresh product key - and get back to work. Thanks for indulging this long note.

Your Key isn't Geniune you're using a volume licensed Key on an OEM computer .

You would need to get a legit key

The Key in use here has been blocked by Microsoft because it's been leaked to the internet.

The machine was built in 2005 - so cannot have a Windows 7 license of its own, but *may* have a Windows XP COA sticker - if so, for which edition?

Where did you acquire this license from?

If you were sold it - complain vigorously to the vendor.

What's Next

I bought a new product key ... the program files /system/activation - the computer offers no ability to phone in to supply the key. The only option I have is to 'go online to resolve..." all I want to do is insert the newly paid for key ... and authenticate... and I am prevented from doing this task. In that past when the key was rejected on applying I was given the option to phone in / and I cannot do that.

I have followed all these articles however the difficulty I am having is this:

2. To Activate by Phone

A) Open the Start Menu, and type slui.exe 4 and press Enter.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

I simply want to activate I have a ligitimate product key and I am having this difficulties... as a last resort I could go down to Bestbuy and buy a new copy of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit...but I already have that OS installed on this computer. I simply want to give to Microsoft my a newly acquired product key. That's all that is required - a working product key?

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)
