Hello people, I came to this forum in rage. This is so weird i can't help but scratch my head and watch in awe. Here's the deal:

Like most people here i have some sort of an internet black-out problem. My event log is full of error's considering DHCP unavailability and other connection problems. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. I reinstalled windows 7 Ultimate x64 two times, formated the disks 3 times each installation JUST in case, and when i start surfing on an absolutely CLEAN install the connection error pops up. Event Viewer says that the computer tries to connect to a dns server but apparently is timed out. I started safe mode with networking, and there was no problem. How the hell is this possible? Safe Mode with Net is no probs, clean instal, even with no drivers gives cutts me off the net! The other weird thing is that when this happens, i can't acces the Network and Sharing center,or anything that lists my adaptor! I can't even shut down the computer cuz it freezes during the shutdown process. From my research it appears that it's still hailing in hope to recieve an IP from the DHCP server. So i tried many method's i found in similar posts around the forums. Here's the list of things i did:

After seeing that safe mode runs internet with no problem (or maybe it didn't, i ran in safe mode for about 30-40 minutes,so i'm not 100% positive),while the clean install doesn't, i though it was because of the drivers.Updated them with the newest ones. There was no problem, but then again i didn't run it software free for more than 30 minutes(usually the internet blackout occures after 15-20 mins). So I installed my regular software including COMODO Internet Security, adding their secure DNS servers in hope to somehow manipulate the connection, cuz automatic DNS choosing didn't help...not to mention it was the dafault anyway. I added all the exceptions, shut down windows Firewall and still no go.

I tried ipconfig /release and renew, but it gives me errors :

C:\Users\Kensei>ipconfig /release

I even tried ipconfig /refreshdns and there was no go as well.

I reinstalled IPv6 protocols, but the other 2 computers all have vista with IPv6 enabled and there's no problem with the net.
I also can't ping my router(or at least i'm lead to believe that this is the router):

C:\Users\Kensei>ping 192.168.123.254

Pinging 192.168.123.254 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 192.168.123.254:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

I also can't restore the system for unknown reasons,I'm getting unspecified errors. I figured the disk i got was somehow corrupt or something, so i downloaded an iso, installed it - and yet again the problem remained.

I also tried the netsh int ip reset thing and that didn't help either. I think i know the problem, which is in my opinion the fact that my machine can't get an IP address for whatever the reason. I updated the firmware on my router, i configured the adapter not to shut down to "save power",and got the same problem. The only thing i haven't done is connect the router with the PC via a cable, something i just can't do due to the routers distant position. Plus i'm pretty sure that the problem isn't in the signal. I haven't talked to my ISP yet, but what the hell should i ask them? "Do you support IPv6?" which is obvious since the other computers gotz no problem connecting even when mine can't connect at all. I can't even view the adapter since the explorer just freezes, obviosly attempting to list the adapter. So during an error like this, i have no access to any sort of configuration utility for the adapter, i cant even view it's properties. It always says "Media disconnected" in the command prompt, and once i by accident clicked on the connection status next to the clock in the taskbar, and say the same shit. The router becomes disconnected and i just lose all possible connections. Plus, i can't restart the computer without pressing the button or holding the power button.I once left it shutting down for a whole night, and in the morning it was till going at it. It was obvious that it's not the computer thinking or repeating some calculation cycle since the HDD was as quite as my grandmothers fart. I'm in awe. If anybody has ANY idea what to do, i certainly won't hold a grudge against you if you kindly post it. Thanks in advance.

Just scanning, not reading but checking the ipconfig.....
Check your nic drivers....
and
Have you tried to set a dynamic ip on the win 7 machine?

Ok guyz sry i didn't reply earlier. I 4got to post my machine cuz it was 4 am.
It's a brand new MEDION make PC, gotz 4 gigs of ram, a quad at 2.5 ghz, GT 220 at a gig... i dunno the hdd or the motherboard, but the fact that it's a factory machine tells me that there's no compatibility issues, and it ran a vista home premium 32 bitz with no problems. I also checked the machine for 64 bit architecture support and it passed the test on every front.
The net-set is as follows. I got 2 lap tops and the current pc connected to e Netopia SmartModem model 2247-02 with the newest firmare which is version 7.7.0r6.
I just noticed that this ip 192.168.123.254 isn't my routers IP, i dunno why, i though this is a default ip for all routers. I'm going to ping 192.168.1.254 to see if there's a connection cuz i'm posting from one of the lap tops (btw the laptops didn't respond to 192.168.123.254 as well). At any rate this is my first time i encountered a networking problem, and networking is one of my weakest fronts when it comes to dealing with a software malfunction. Ill post back the results in afew seconds.

Edit: Ok it seems that i can ping it when i have a conneection. I'm gonna w8 for the internet to black out and i'm gonna give it a ping again.

Edit: I just found a new network driver, it's freakin fresh. From this year. I installed now and i hope there'll be no black-outs anymore. I'll fill it up if the problem's fixed.

Just a little info:

If you run an ipconfig /all, take a look at the IP addresses in the response again.

If the IP address comes back as 192.168.x.x and you have your PC NIC set to DHCP, then you got an address from your router. 192.168.x.x is by far the most common subnet in use by small home routers. To find out what the router's IP address is, look at the Default Gateway information. That's the router.

If your IP address shows up 169.254.x.x then you didn't get any response from the router. Windows by design will assign itself an address in the 169.254.x.x if it send a DHCP request but doesn't get a reply.

Other info to look for is the DNS address. Most of the time that will be the router. It acts as the DNS server.

Many intermittent issues with W7 seem to stem from old or incorrect drivers for the ethernet NIC so make sure those are up to snuff. Soounds like you found updated ones so hopefully that will stabilize things.

It actually did, now my connection lasted up to 5 hours. Though i stil got ****ED! There's gotta be some frikkin way to fix it. I'm gonna go ipconfig /all now, while i don't have connection and i'm gonna do the same when i restart. Be back in 5.

So, anybody know what's wrong?

Edit:I forgot to mention that i did another netsh int ip reset .

Edit 2: I also forgot to mention that i can't ping my router when i got the black out, and i can ping it when i got the net. Idk what happens, i just installed the latest frekkin driver for my NIC (i think that's how the adapter/lan card in the computer is called.) Driver genius doesn't detect any missing drivers as well and reports an overall fully updated system.

It lost it's IP address. Now to figure out why. I see media disconnected so it thinks there no physical connection. Wireless probably disconnected or dropped.

1st: What make and model USB wireless adapter are you using?
2nd: What make and model router are you using and what firmware version?

When my PC displayed the "Media disconnected" it was because my Wireless cards drivers were not up to date. As soon as I found the Windows 7 release it worked instantly!

(Thanks to Chev65 :))

The router is Netopia SmartModem model 2247-02 with the newest firmare which is version 7.7.0r6.

I'm starting to think this can't be fixed in any way. The weirdest thing is why can't i access network and sharing center when the internet is dead. Hell, i can't work my way to the router or the adaptor i gotz. I'm thinkig of reinstalling for the 5th time.

Edit: http://www.drivershq.com/Drivers/De...reless-LAN-Card-Driver/20275/125/Drivers.aspx

Does this mean that the newest freakin driver is incompatible with windows 7? Let alone with 64 bitz? If it's not, than how do i have internet at all? Ofc the version i got is newer dated. It's 3.0.3.0 , and it's signed by microsoft windows hardware compatibility publisher. The driver's date is 8/5/2009. Can it run or can it not? And i can still hardly believe it since the computer is 15 days old, and windows says that the device is working properly in the properties window.

Btw it crashed again and i was constantly watching the adapter in "hardware and devices", for a moment their it had a black circle at the lower left corner and it said that this device needed troubleshooting. 3 seconds later it disapeared, and even though i launched the trouble shooter in time it said there were no problems. Even after the black-out it STILL said no problems. What the hell is that i wonder.

And if the only logical weak spot would be the drivers, then what am i supposed to do? I installed all of them already. And they are all up to date.

The Ralink drivers you found are generic and aren't for W7. In fact there's no listing for any Ralink client adapters on the Windows7 Compatibility list.

I did find some drivers on the Ralink site that may work.

www.ralinktech.com. Go to Software, then Windows. It's at the top of the list.

This is looking very much like a driver issue on your wireless USB adapter.

What brand name is on it?

This sounds like a hardware problem, not a software problem.

Certain devices like wireless landline phones or even microwaves can interrupt your network connection. Try changing the channel. Change the channel to either 1,6, or 11.

Normally I'd completely agree with you but in this case he's got messed up drivers which need to be fixed first.

Well, here's the sit-rep:
Thanx again to RedBirdDad but that didn't fix my problem. I ran the system in safe mode later on and the problem poped out in there too. That leads me to believe that the problem is in the copy of the windows that i have, since i reinstalled it 2 times from the same disk with the problem remaining, downloading an RTM release just in case if that was the problem. But this time i'm either going to go get a windows from my friend, or download another iso. I just hope my cd key won't stay with the previous windows.
Thanx again everyone. I ran the computer in safe mode for 12 hours this time so that's why i managed to see the problem. You can mark that one as a solve :D....4th instal! :)

Are you using homegroup for networking? Are there any non win 7 machines on the network?

Homegroup sometimes has problems in mixed environments. Symptoms inlude random disconnects, slow downloads, and other random nonsense.

You can test it for yourself easily by making a new network connection using the "workgroup" model. If thta cures your problem you can disable IPv6 and kill homegroup

Ne network connection didn't help/ I'll give you guyz a heads up if everything is working fin when i put on a new win. It's prolly gonna happen 2morrow. Plus i don't think this is the problem since i have no complaints from the speed connection. It's actually going faster then in vista. Well, untill it totally blacks-out. Anyway i'm sure that smthin's wrong with the windows since i had the same problem running safe mode with networking. Tnx.
