Time on windows computer is off

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, and have noticed that my time is off. I reset it to the right time, but slowly over time it gets behind. I have went into services and changed the startup time to automatic. I know it's not a CMOS battery issue as I have had multiple Linux distros on this computer and had Windows 8.1 on it, and the time was 100% accurate on them. I'm puzzled how to fix this, If anyone know, thanks in advance.

Hi Arvsgamer, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

As you have recently installed Windows, have you set your time zone correctly. Right Click on the clock down at the RH corner of the Task Bar & select Change Time & Date Settings & when that open select Change Time Zone & then click on the little arrow on the bar & find your location from the drop down list.

Just checked the timezone, it is correct, so that's not the problem.

If you have set the time update to automatic then it will update usually once a week.

How much time is it actually losing. Most battery clocks, which this is gain or lose a small amount.

If it is losing a lot of time, then the CMOS battery is very likely the cause & they gradually lose power with normal use, without any warning.

It'll update every once in a while, sometimes it syncs, but then it'll fall behind, getting further and further behind. Right now it is more than 10 minutes behind. It might be the CMOS battery, but I had Windows 8.1 on here a week ago, and the time was not a problem, but the battery might just coincidentally became a problem as I installed Windows 7. I'll look into replacing it.

Edit: I've had this computer for a little over a year now, would that be enough time for the CMOS battery to mess up?

Battery life is a bit like, "how long is a piece of string". They vary, sometimes they last for years & sometimes only a few months.

As your specs show you are using a HP computer this HP website might help as well. I would certainly not suggest updating the BIOS unless you are very experienced at doing that, as a mistake there can brick the computer motherboard.

This would be a workaround more than a solution:

Make Windows synchronize time more often - Skip to "How to do it: A different scheduled task" and create one as described. Check "Repeat task every" in Advanced Settings (Edit Trigger screen) and set to depending on your preference.

Thanks for all the help, I found I temporary solution, using Dimension 4 to keep my time updated via the internet.
