Today I drove from home 1 to home 2, from Leipzig in eastern Germany to Solingen in western Germany. Terrible traffic, almost impossible to drive. Normally I need about 3 hours 40 minutes to drive here, 510 km (320 miles), including a 30 minute stop to have a coffee, few cigarettes and some fuel (almost all the way no speed limits), but today it took almost 4 and half hours, making the average speed only 120 kmph (about 75 mph). Not good, I hate to drive so slow.

Came here, only to find out that my system had crashed, server and router were off, so I could not login to my VPN even with my laptop. Been fighting with that the last half an hour, finally found out that a fuse had burned out (old house, old electrical systems). New fuse, and I'm back online.

One meeting tomorrow, Thursday back home.

Life is about as good as it can be. It's 24 degrees Celsius (about 75 degrees Fahrenheit), sunny evening, I'm sitting in the garden of my favorite pub with a laptop, having a nice glass of Laphroiag and some "Altbier", traditional German dark beer.

An average of 75MPH, slow? You don't appreciate your speed limits (or lack of) very much!

Here in Britain it's 70MPH with speed cameras every mile or so, how do you think we feel? :p

Count your blessings. ;)

If i were in your shoes, i would scream out loud or singing in a car. I mean 70? and yet many cars were made with 200 MPH speed and above
(because they know at the end you can't drive that fast)

The one thing that makes up for it is that we actually drive on the correct side of the road, unlike most other countries... I mean who actually liked Napoleon's left handed, keep right marching style anyway? ;)

The distance between our two homes is 511 kilometers, from garage to garage (318 miles). I need normally about 3 hours 40 minutes, having one 20 to 30 minute stop halfway through, to have coffee and cigarette or two and fill the tank. When planning the trip, I never calculate more than four hours to that trip, so yes, today was slow.

It helps that this trip is mostly without speed limits, and even when there's a limit (about one fourth), it's 130 kmph (80 mph).

For those who love to drive, German Autobahn (motorway, highway) network is something worth to test. Although they have more and more speed limits, there's still enough Autobahn without limits. It's a wonderful feeling to accelerate to 220 kmph, about 135 mph, set the cruise control and enjoy.

My wife loves to drive maybe even more than I. The record of our family is 3 hours 15 minutes, driven by my dear Angie. It was a night between Saturday and Sunday, August last year, no traffic, and only a 4 to 5 minute break to fill the tank. Not counting the break, it makes an average speed of 160 kmph (100 mph).

We have a bet: if I don't break her record before 31st of August this year, she chooses the next cruise and I'll pay. If I break it, I'll choose and she pays.

Was in a sports car club for awhile .. And they would set up a road course in a parking lot.

All the Corvettes would show up ..
and with a lot of engine noise, screeching of tires and shifting gears would race for time.

Then the the VW's would get on the course and Purr (humm) thier way around the course and turn in faster times.

My Buddy said they were called the "Hummers" ..
