You can change the workgroup name to anything you like
as lonkg as you follow the normal rules about certain symbols not being allowed.The workgroup is used with the older Microsoft networking technology so is more important if you have xp or earlier systems on your network.
Also some other devices such as printers and drive arrays still only work when the workgroup name is the same on all systems
As an aside XP home used to use o default workgroup name of MSHOME so if you have mixed systems at least one default would have to be changed
