Solved trouble updating driver for AMD Radeon 6570 HD

Oh man, this can be a vicious circle.

I'm not sure if fusion is all that smart - it might just say "here are the things I know about AMD, is there anything you don't want removed"

For now just close Fusion.

Please check Device manager again for Display.

If it's there, uninstall the driver (plate tab) - make sure you look around for a checkbox
it's usually in the lower left corner and it says remove software (or something to that effect). There might be a pop up instead of a checkbox that asks the same thing (do you want to remove the software)

Yes, you want to remove the software.

The only way the AMD driver can be reinstalled is if the software still lives on the box.

Check the name of the driver - make sure we're not fighting something else - like Nvidia.

I saw Intel on the HP page, so I think the Nvidia is a left over from a card that was in the machine.

right click the name of your Computer
select device installation settings
set is as below and save

I think that should close the door on any automatic updates.

Run cCleaner - just the cleaner part (the broom) - analyze button, then run cleaner button
You can close cCleaner after the cleanup.

Sorry for the short hand. I was asking you to rename two folders
AMD and ATI Technologies in two different locations.
by adding -x to the end of the folder name
When you're done the folders will be named
AMD-x and ATI Technologies-x


In Windows Explorer, open C:\
right click AMD
select rename
AMD-x

Same Explorer window
open Program Files
open Common Files
right click ATI Technologies
select rename
ATI Technologies-x

ATI Technologies was the folder you couldn't locate in a search, so it might not exist.
C:\Program Files\Common Files is where it should exist, but you've been cleaning stuff up.... so it might really be gone.

After renaming the folders, restart your machine

Might as well give the AMD install a shot, I won't be able to do any real research on Nvidia (I think it's just a remnant in the path statement)

ok, thought you might as well check - it didn't show up in the CMd dir list or Windows Search - no worries

Windows Update might offer you the AMD driver at some point - it did on my machine. You configured WU so that it won't help you automatically. You have to click on the WU notification and look at the offers, then click download/install. Beats doing this when ever WU helps you.

I right clicked the AMD Graphic / Display drive and hid the update since I knew I installed a newer version. There might be a time when WU catches up to AMD releases, but they're real careful about what they offer in WU.

Yes Bill, the AMD update(14.4), her,s the shot of the device mgr:
And to be more precise about windows installing the driver, when I restarted my computer it did it automaticaly, there was nothing I could do to stop it, I just saw a message on the bottom right corner telling me that windows was installing the driver

Also when I try to update my driver via the device manager driver tab, windows says the driver is up to date.

I'm curious if WU will offer skip AMD version 8.881 to replace version 14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql
I was confused the first time WU offered the AMD driver shortly after I updated the AMD driver, both being WHQL.

It's all coming back now
The driver and the package use different versioning

14.4 refers to the entire package.
Your display driver (part of the package) did get updated from 8.881 to 8.961


I think the best thing to do at this point is let the system settle into the changes. We made a few.

The question is - what does the game think. If it suggests a driver update - ignore it. If the game won't play at all, hmmmm maybe after the holiday we can revisit this, but I think you'll be alright.
