Troubleshooting system slow down

Hi all,

Looking for some assistance in figuring out why mt machine has slowed down remarkably.

I originally thought it was high disk activity but that does not seem to be the case. I did some digging with Process Explorer and Process Monitor and could not nail down any individual program that was really thrashing the disk. The high activity was from running uTorrent, but even when I pause all of my torrents that I'm seeding, the machine is still slow.

Now that I've gotten through the disk activity, I'm really not sure where to go.

The machine was running great and then after installing SP1 a week or so ago, it's been a bit of a dog. I saw some stuff about the disk indexing being a problem right after installing SP1, but that it calmed down after a while for people, but mine never sped back up, so I don't think that is the issue.

TIA!

Let us know what happens. Others or even myself may have other suggestions if needed

Unfortunately, nothing showed on the malwarebytes scan.

In the meantime I did have a blue screen during a reboot (before running the scan) but this is the very first occurrence ot this. (The blue screen was in dxgmms1.sys, stop 0x0000000000000050, I need to do some googling on this)

For grins, here's the malwarebytes log:

Try uninstalling MucAfee to run MSE or Avast 5 with Win7 Firewall for best performance. We have several cases a week where this solves issues.

Next run SFC -SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Forums.

Check your logs and other troubleshooting resources offered by Win7: troubleshooting steps

Given that I've invested considerable money in McAfee I'm not ready to just drop it. Also, the PC has been running perfectly with McAfee for several months, so I'm not ready to believe that it's suddenly the culprit.

But if I go too long without a solution, I'll certainly give it a try and then yell and scream at McAfee until I get some money back! But given the effort involved with screaming at McAfee, I want this to be a last resort.

Thanks for the info!

Why would anyone pay to bloat their computer, when all experts agree that free lightweight MSE or Avast5 with the Win7 firewall give the best performance and are every bit as good?

Back when I went with McAfee, the reviews for McAfee were the best. (I know that changes over time!)

Can you point me to some articles (or a good place to find info) I'd loce to do some reading and figure out if it's time to abandon McAfee.

Thanks!

As I mentioned my advice is based on repeat experience here where uninstalling MucAfee solves performance problems.

I stopped reading the rankings for AV's because they seem to be stacked based on who's doing them, and have little real-world awareness of best practices for Win7 performance which is what we deal with here every day.

That said, I am almost always behind a hardware firewall so take it all in stride. :geek:
