Trust temperatures from BIOS or software?

I just got a new Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro. It lowered my temps about 12-15C. I am very pleased. However I am getting a BIG difference between the CPU temp. in the BIOS PC heath check and temps reported by RealTemp and SIW (which are the same) The difference is about 10C. Is this a normal thing? I can't believe there is this much difference. Have you got the same temperature anomalies? Is this because Windows is not running when in the BIOS? What do you smart people think?

Yeah. I noticed the same thing. The CPU will stay much cooler in Windows, even with the power saving features disabled. It gets hotter when I'm messing around in the BIOS.

In my case, the diodes are reading the correct temps. It's just that the computer runs hotter in the BIOS.

Hmmm Mine is running cooler in BIOS. I wonder what would cause that to happen. It must be a sensor thing. I would not think it would be correct....but who knows.

Does the boot screen (the BIOS POST) on your computer show Temps? Mine does. When I monitor temps in Windows, then reboot, the temps are nearly the same on the BIOS POST screen. This tells me that whatever program I use to monitor the temps in Windows is giving me the same readout as my BIOS.

I would like to know how to know how to "pause" the post. Mine is so fast I can't even see it. I know there is a way. Do you know? The only way I can see it is if I slow the HD detect down in the BIOS and don't know if that's a good thing to do.....

try to press the Pause/Break key to pause the POST. Then SysRq/PrintScrn to continue.

Cool. I'll try that. I'm not home now (at work) so I'll try that and see what the temps say there. I'll post back if I can figure out why the temps are different or if mine are the same as yours.

Thanks for the pause key to pause the post. My Gigabyte board does not have temps in the post (that I can see) so I am still stuck with 10C cooler in the BIOS than when running Windows. Pretty strange. Two good programs (real temp and SIW) have me at 10C higher in Windows than the BIOS. Anybody else seeing this? Look at this though....there may be two sensors (see CPU and then the ones below for the CPU) All I can think is there must be two sensors.

Perhaps the BIOS on your motherboard has a 10 degree adjustment programmed into it. Is it common for diodes to report higher than actual temps? It all seems a bit strange to me.

Maybe there are even two different sensors, one in the CPU and one on the motherboard which could explain the different readings.
