I was looking how to improve my computer performance and had a look at this drivers update device ( did not buy or use it ) and it tells me that 9 drivers are obsolete and one is out if date

Would it be a good investment to but this product and use it to do the updating ?

I know you can try updating drivers by using the devices manager, but I am afraid to make drastic mistakes there.

I have been trying to use DELL System detect ( see my specs ) but it does not want to work.

The drivers that are obsolete are:

DW 1501 Wireless_N WLAN Half-Mini Card'
ATI/0 Communications Processor,
PCI Standard ISA bridge.
High Definition Audio Device,
USB Composite Device,
AMD SATA Controller.
AMI Mobility Radeon HD 4200,
PS/2 Compatible Mouse,
and again :

High Definition Audio Device ( outdated )

Overall it seams that my Computer speed is poor and it has found 128 things that are "Impact level Severe "

What I don't understand is how my computer can still function with all these problems.

Can anyone give me some idea what I should be doing to sort all this out ?

Very grateful for any advice !!!! :)

Would it be a good investment to but this product and use it to do the updating ?

In a word; No. Never use software to update software, especially drivers. Visit the Dell support page for your PC and see if they have more recent drivers for your hardware, download them and install them manually by running the installer for each driver.

If your PC is slow it's probably not down to drivers, do you run regular maintenance routines on it?

Hi
Thanks both for reply's !

I have deleted ( ccleaner and Glary Utilities ) all the bits of tweatbit that were already put on my laptop ( even though I did not use it !!! and cleaned also in the register with : redegit > edit > find > delete . There were not many  !

And now I also remember years ago ( again almost ) falling in this trap.

Luckily I always Google the name of new programs before using them, there is so much cr** out there.

Yes Boozad, I do my maintenance, but I am not very computer literate so there are probably more things I should do.

I clean-up regularly, but am afraid for driver updates, because I don't understand the process.
I have so many drivers in my Device Manager, that I am sure some are double or not working, but if I un install a really important one by accident, I think my laptop will stop working.

But I would like to get my overall score a bit higher................

I understand the appeal of driver update utilities and tried them myself in my early days. But I had some unpleasant experiences and never tried them again. These programs are popular with the inexperienced and often contain malware. It is not unusual for them to suggest out of date or inappropriate drivers. I suppose there are some good programs but I have no interest in looking for them.

Yes Lmiller7 (thanks for responding ), after what I have learned here I agree, it all comes down to making money of coarse (they are no charity ) and that is not wrong as long as you are selling an honest safe product, but then be realistic about it and propose your product as that.

Nowadays everything gets very confusing with microsoft and others taking these programs in there stride.

Where ever you go or visit, you have to be on you're tiptoes not to accidentally sign in for more than you are looking for, even with very good solid maleware sites.

Look at this :

Here?s What Happens When You Install the Top 10 Download.com Apps

That is really taking us al for the mickey ........:sarc:

Why the **** would Microsoft include Tweakbit and verify it as it works and viable? I had to re-install my windows after I used it ONCE.

I made a thread about it:

http://www.sevenforums.com/software...stalled-programs-tweakbit-driver-updater.html

What makes you think that Microsoft approves of such programs?
What Microsoft site states that Tweakbit is a good thing?

I personally don't know of any Microsoft site that states, indicates, or otherwise anything about Tweakbit or any other program like
Tweakbit.

***I would highly recommend before downloading any magic program; please just post a thread and ask for information, opinions and help on such program.***

The tweakbit website is just made to look like a Microsoft download website...
...but you can tell from the URL that you are not on a Microsoft website.

You can also look at the fine print at the bottom of the website:

Yes Boozad, I do my maintenance, but I am not very computer literate so there are probably more things I should do.

To be honest the best PC maintenance starts by just empowering yourself with a bit of knowledge. Always research programs and software before using it, be careful where you download from and what you download and always err on the side of caution. If in doubt, find a community such as this one and ask. Sometimes though learning the hard way can be the best way, those are lessons you never forget!

My personal weekly maintenance routine is as follows:

Scan with your AV of choice
Scan with MalwareBytes
Run a round of CCleaner
Image my C: drive with Macrium Reflect
Monthly I'll image all of my data drives as well as regular backing up of files to external drives.

This may sound excessive, but it's a pretty quick routine when run regularly and takes up very little time. The payoff being I've never had to reinstall Windows, clear out viruses, deal with Malware or lose any files.

That is weird Boozad, I have just Yesterday down loaded "Macrium Reflect", because I spotted it underneath your logo.

It is a very big program and I have to really study it to find out how to use it, but it looks really professional and I will try, today to safe my stuff. You mention C drive.

Although I am not good with technical things (hardware), I am not bad with the software now and never have had a virus on my computer as far as I know. Always cheque things (google) before using and clean computer of cookies and run SAS and ccleaner every day.

Have learned masses here on this forum by just looking round and visiting threads that look interesting.

And the more you learn, the more fun it is to try it out and see how things work
There are so many different aspect it is mind blowing !!!!

Now I have to find out why DELL Detect is not working for me ( or perhaps for nobody ???? )

Good call on SAS thelma, I forgot about that one. I use that weekly too.

If you watch the video on MBAM in the tutorial linked it will explain a lot and hopefully be of some help to you.

Hi,
Running ccleaner and sas daily is a bit excessive :/

Drivers well my view is if everything works there's really nothing to fix ;)
There's been a excessive release of new drivers for realtek audio it's been so frequent it's annoying and again if everything works there's nothing to fix ;)

I don't particularly want to change my drivers or Bios, it al works fine as far as I know and I am really happy with this little 5 years old Dell Inspiron.

When it came out it got very good write-up and it was not expensive compared to others in the same range. ( Got it at Tesco's ).

It was just that I found this thread here on seven forums, about showing your computer performance to each other and mine are really quiet low.
I cleaned it completely, took all the old stuff off, but the scores did not change one bit, so I thought must be the drivers ?
Have a lot of original once from day 1.:rolleyes and many many in my Task manager.

Can you some where see an example of a Task manager that is say random or normal ? That would be dead great to compare mine with :)

Yep little upgrades can make a little difference
Just make sure you have good ventilation and keep it clean should be all it takes to keep it running for a lot longer :)

This was my 6 almost 7 year old Acer and did a little project to it so it will at least have a chance to make it win-7's end of life in 2020 :)
Working great lean/ mean and

You did very well there , sounds like a lot of work and you might as well be talking chinees to me as far as the technical details are concerned! :(

But mine is a laptop, so not much room to move ( Hey, that's a John Mayall song ) !!!!!

You talked about the cooling, that part I did understand. Mine gets very hot, might try to open it and see if I can clean the 5 years of dust away. I already have it on a elevated platform ( if you know what I mean ) to give more open space around the air vents.

Will have a look round in the forums and see some Y Tube video's about opening this Dell Inspiron model.
Don't want to hurt the old fellow:huh:

Let you know ................
