I'm sure there has been some discussion regarding the 2 issues I shall disclose in a moment. And I'm sure there are many who would agree with me and those that would say "I can't for the life of me understand why you don't like..."

So here we go.

1) Windows 7 Search...
I used to use search extensively in XP with it's bolean logic, wildcards, drive selection, time and date options...etc. Now I search for a simple phrase like *.jpg and get absolutely nothing. I've made some tweaks
via the search preferences dialogue, but still find very little. It's like Windows search has fell into a deep sleep, a coma really!

Searching the internet for help on using Windows 7 search has little to offer. I understand that cataloging is used for lightening fast search results, and I do get lightning fast blank window with no files found.

Anyone have a decent tutorial on making windows search function as CONVENIENTLY as Windows XP.

At present I am using a third party software "Locate32" which also catalogs data an it actually works.

2) Libraries
What the...
I thought I'd make use of libraries for ease of access for my mother, but when you try to go to My Pictures, it seems to list multiple instances of folders called "My Pictures." They are not actually duplicate folders, but rather shortcuts to the folder that is listed right above or below it. Yeah, What the...

I used a tweak to remove the libraries from the Windows Explorer view and edited the places bar to direct the user to the alternate folder where new My Documents, My Pictures, My Video's... are located, but the
Open dialog shows the libraries folders in the right pane, a confusing mess made more confusing.

Not sure of an easy answer to this mess.

Well, No. The alternate location to the user file will allow windows to search that location as apposed to the default install location. The search failures have happened to installs that I did not alter the user files location 3 - 4 systems. still find almost nothing.

Thanks for the links, I will check them out...

Yes, it would show pictures if I stored them there.
