Solved unable to add existing hotmail accounts to outlook mail

I have always used windows live mail in the past with several email accounts on one screen which now keep being lost and do not sync properly since Microsoft started changing things.
My OS is Windows 7.
Now that Microsoft has changed my outlook account to Outlook EMail I want to use it with a few emails as I used to do with live mail but cant seem to do it.
I can open all my hotmail accounts individually using Outlook Email but want to have them all available on one screen. I can log into any one of my hotmail account with no problems but cant add any more accounts to the one I have logged into. Have tried lots of combinations of pop3, imap etc but always get messages like
"we couldn't connect to the server for your other account". which is that the one I opened or the one I want to add?
"make sure POP or IMAP have access." How do I do that?
"we are unable to reach your email provider" surely they are my provider?
I am also confused with the instructions to add an account as to which email address (aleady done or the one to be added) is being requested in which box.
Totally confused!!

Have installed the Outlook Connector first?

Use an Outlook.com account in Outlook - Outlook

not sure i want to use that as windows live mail keeps disappearing as microsoft messes about.
Eventually they might well do away with it.
I want to get rid of live mail and just use Outlook Email.
I assume Outlook connector uses Live Mail so with connector I would still get disappearances, double messages and intermittent stopping of emails requiring the affected accounts to be deleted and
reinstated etc
Or am I wrong?

Also, I can access all the old hotmail accounts on outlook I just cant get to them all on 1 screen at the same time. I just need to connect them to outlook Email all at the same time so that i can see all the messages and reply without having to log out of one account and log back in to another

If you want to access your Hotmail account from an e-mail client, you must install Outlook connector first.

OK, tried this but get this message:
The Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector requires Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or Microsoft Outlook 2010.

Only have Office Outlook Pro. 2000

Ok, I think it may be time to move away from Outlook 2003 - this application is very old and a lot of the background processes used for email have changed from those in Use in 2003.

You could purchase a more modern version of Outlook Desktop Client that will use the Outlook connector or look at an alternative free option.

I would recommend the free Thunderbird client as it is powerful and customizable

This will be a change to what you are used to but the application is still current, fully supported by both the developers and a large community of users

There are two connection methods available POP3 and IMAP - IMAP is the closest to the way that the old Live mail worked so is probably the best option for your needs

easy to get multple accounts on thunderbird.
Seems to be quite good.
however now I have to get contacts across etc. (should be ok to do).
1. Once i have done this can i delete windows live mail and outlook from my laptop?
2. Do you know if thunderbird available on IOS and Android as well?

I actually use my main account, (Gmail), to collect my other accounts and I can then use the built in phone and tablet apps (android), to read and work with my mail. I'm not aware of Thunderbird iOS or Android apps but I may be wrong

As for deleting outlook and live mail, once you are completely happy that the new system is working for you you can of course uninstall the old apps but I would wait a few weeks to be safe
