Unable to connect on Windows 7 - help!!

Hi, I have just purchased a new laptop with Windows 7. I am currently located in a serviced office building where the connection has always been great before Windows 7. the connection has always worked with DHCP. We have tried manually programming the IP address etc to see if it wil connect but nothing. Can anyone give me any advice for things to try as I am tearing my hair out now. Are there any particular settings that need to be changed for DHCP through Cat 5 cabling, etc

any help would be very gratefully received......

May be as simple as a driver. type device manger in search. Go to the network tab. Is you device listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown" device with yellow on them?

If your device is not listed, or has a yellow triangle on it you need to install the driver. Go to the MFR website and download it.

try unplugging power from modem and router power down all PC's now in this order plug power back into the modem and wait for the lights on the modem to be stable green etc. then plug power back into router wait for lights again then power up all PC's

thanks for that but there is no modem, the business centre sets up the connection and then we just plug the cat 5 cable into the laptop. It works on the XP PC's just not the new laptops with windows 7. If you have any further suggestions I wold be grateful...

those cat 5 cables are connected to a switch and or router that is attached to a modem you are just at the end of the distribution system you need to talk to who ever takes care of said equipment and suggest a restart of the equipment networking equipment needs to be restarted for various reason like changing settings and or equipment connected to it in order to re auto assign IP addresses via DHCP

Thanks, they have done that 3 times already for me. It is just the laptop that has this problem, it works great when you plug the connection into the other 8 PC's with Windows XP. We have 10 IP addresses assigned to us so plenty for me to use. Thank you for your help though.

so you have tried entering the IP's manually you may want to try unchecking IPv6 from the adapter properties your network may not support it

what was the result of zigzags suggestion to check and see if your network card is installed correctly on your laptop ?

What router are you using for this connection? If you can look up the model number and version number and post it here that would be helpful.

My IT person has checked the network card and all is fine apparently. The business centre have a Cisco 3800 Series that then cables over to a catalyst then cabled to our ports in the office via a patch panel... we are going to try unchecking the IPv6 tomorrow morning...
