Unable to edit/run a .bat file win7 sp1

Hi, this my first thread here, i have read some of the other threads regarding .Bat files and running them ,but none of the suggestions have so far worked for me,

Here is the situation, i installed an old game R6Vegas2 to c:/games instead of the protected programe files(default install location) the game it's self works fine, but it's a mod for this game that uses bat files, teknor6vegas2.exe wich then injects it's code into the games .exe so i need to be able to edit the bat file and run it,

so far all that happens is the dos cmd window opens and closes within2 seconds nothing else
things that i have tried,disabled uac, taken ownership /full control
copied a sortcut to the desktop (.bat file) and changed to run as admin all made no difference at all,
in win xp it works without all this faffing around

Hi,

teknor6vegas2.exe isn't a .BAT file. The way you wrote your post implies that this is a batch file, but its an executable file so you won't be able to edit it (not as a typically batch file anyway). Can you check your original post to see if you got the bat file name correctly?

Sorry for the mis understanding but to hopefully clear it up, the Teknor6vegas 2.30 mod, consists of 1 exe(teknor6vegas2) and 3 .bat files, inside them there are 3 fields that relate to the terrorist cap player cap and eyefinity so i can enable/disable eyefintiy option allow more than the standard 4players online to the max 16players and finally increase the number of AI upto 99,
1,NoPlayerCap_99Terrorist_Eyefinity.bat
2 PlayerCap_99Terrorist_NoEyefinity.bat
3 NoPlayerCap_NormalTerrorists_Eyefinity.bat
1. Copy to your <Rainbow Six Vegas 2 game folder>\Binaries
2. Run from Console or use included BAT files.
3. Have fun!!! are the instructions, I haven't tried running from console,as i'm not familiar with the parameters needed
Using win xp the bat files can be edited in notepad,, via right clicking & selecting edit option (not present on win7) then by selecting open/run the bat file runs/starts the teknor6vegas2 exe with the chosen parameters which then presumably modifies the r6vegas2.exe ( reloaded no cd exe) that ubisoft in their day tried to claim as their own work, until reloaded went public,lol, more details on it here:http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ubisoft-Cracks-Own-Game-with-Reloaded-Fix-90318.shtml

Windows 7 should let you rightclick each .bat file and select Edit to open it in Notepad. I'm guessing that the .bat files assume the default location for your installed game and you need to change that path.

That's what i can't understand but there is no edit option available & the open= run, dos window flickers on/off that's all it does, as for the game not being in programe files, it has made no difference ,it's because it failed there re installed it to a different location, what is a bat file supposed to open with in file associations, any one know?

Just open Notepad and navigate to the BAT file and select it, and open it that way.

Hello Toby, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are these files in a ZIP folder by chance?

If so, you would need to extract (drag and drop) the files to say your desktop first before you will have the "Edit" option when you right click on the BAT file.

If you did, then you might see if downloading and merging the BAT option in the tutorial below may be able to help by restoring all default associations for BAT files.

Thank's for that i did have to associate the reg file previously as win7 didn't have a clue , i shall give the .bat default assoications a go, after trying different things the .bat files will for some reason run the exe file if they are on a different partition ,my system is dual boot, xp on other partitition, with same game and mod files weird, thing is i should be able to run it from the win7 partition, if win7 is going to be so restrictive maybe it's a bad choice of os ?

Merged the reg eteries default .bat still no change, run as admin nothing, the short cut is pointing to the correct path so im at a loss

Idon't know if it will help at all but here is a screen shot of it when run succesfully on other partition (using that the files from that partition not win7 partition)

Ithink that when i try and run this bat file pointing to the game installed on the same partition as win7 it opens the normal cmd prompt, which opens & closes within 1 second, where as if do the same but pointing to a different installation of the game on a different partition it opens the elevated cmd prompt so works as intended, why do microsoft think that 2 cmd prompts are needed?
