Unable to get correct time

Hi everyone,

One of my work machines, a Sony VAIO VPCF116G laptops has a very strange error.
Every time I start the laptop the time is incorrect, so I change it to the correct time and work with it. Once I'm done I turn the laptop off. When I power it back up the next day the time will be set to the time I changed it to when I previously made the change and the date will be of the previous day.

Is this a CMOS battery issue?

EDIT: I have made changes both from the control panel and from the BIOS.

Is the time in the bios correct ?

The next time it fouls up, don`t change it, reboot the machine to see if it`s correct in the bios.

Make sure your date and region are correct in windows.

The time in the BIOS is incorrect, that is it is showing the time and date I set it at through windows. If I make a change here the clock in windows is changed but turn the laptop off for 10 minutes and it will revert to the time I changed it to before restarting.

All other settings are correct.

It's as mentioned above the bios back up battery. Unless hard wired in it's a breeze to replace and not expensive but they can be easy to find and or a bear. If it's a bear it's likely under the keyboard as it was on my older Gateway and it took fortitude and patience to work my way to it. Try to find a video of someone changing this very model out to see if you're up for it.

As long as BIOS keeps time/changes between reboots, I'd say that it is a Windows issue.
Try checking the settings about internet clock syncronization. (the tab about "internet time" in the "change date and time settings" line that pops up when you click on the clock in the taskbar)

If the time is changing when lappy is turned off then the bios battery isn't holding the settings or time and just reverting to a default. If I got my information mistaken then I would look to other possible answers first as mentioned the bios batteries are designed to last a good long time and can vary wildly in ease of replacement and not knowing Sony's set up much research should be done before undertaking.

Ok general consensus is it's the battery. I'll hunt down a youtube video of where it's located.

At the end of the day it's only the date and time as it's not holding a overclock or some other settings of real meaning other than boot order. I just hope it's a battery with a connector on the end and isn't under the keyboard but even that if you have a video and take your time you'll conquer.
