I have no experience with RAID so not sure how I can help but I think that you need to install the Raid drivers first before you install, is that correct?

Hi Smother,

First of all, please do not bump your posts, especially after such a short period of time.

That said, back to your problem. Both Vista and W7 use the same installation interface, and offer the opportunity to install RAID drivers if they are required. Although the installation disks contain many such drivers, the list is by no means exhaustive and you may find that you need to provide these drivers for either Vista or W7 (or both). In my case, I had to provide them for Vista, but they were included in W7. Should you need to provide driver(s), then the Vista ones should work.

Having said that, you are obviously progressing through the installation as you mention the 2nd restart. It is possible that your W7 disk needs cleaning because it sounds like one or more files were corrupted when they were copied to your HDD during installation. Try that - you will need to reinstall W7 - and let us know if this helps.

sorry for that :o

back to my topic, yeah i know that Vista no need to load drivers for RAID0, so assuming same with W7, i already use this W7 installation disk on 2 PC one on lappy and one on my other desktop. but when i try to use on RAID0 config i have no success, but Vista works flawlessly.

tnx! ;)

Hi Smother,

That's OK, just wanted to point it out for future reference.

Here is a link to the Gigabyte page for your motherboard: GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - Driver - GA-EP45C-DS3R (rev. 1.0) Download and save all the files onto a USB memory stick (both Vista and W7 can access this type of media during installation). When you need to provide the driver during installation, simply browse for it and allow W7 to load it. You will know when you have the correct driver because the HDD will be correctly identified.

W7 installs on a RAID0 as normal. It sounds like you have a bad disk. I agree with dwarf. Maybe your DL of the installer was corrupted.

what do you mean "bad disk" the HDD or the CD burned with W7?

i think not either of them. the HDD now is running on Vista on RAID0 config and the CD installer is the same CD is use to my other PC and lappy, cept this PC with RAID0

I had this type of problem also installing to RAID0 on a second partition. Clearing the cmos and resetting all bios settings seemed to work for me.

What I meant was that the CD is probably bad, however you used it to do 2 other good installs if I heard you correctly, so that may not be the case.
Do you recall how you set up the suspect partition? Are you sure it contains a MBR? I seem to recall the HDD disk management utility giving me the option for MBR or not when I set up a new RAID array recently, is that also an option for a partition? I have no partitions on my system is why I ask. Do you reformat that partition each time you get a bad install? Check that next time. Good luck.

copy on that, yeah same CD installer on 3 PC, but on this 3rd one it fails. this 3rd PC is a new build.(not on my system specs) where i confused is Vista is now already installed but W7 no luck, i try this atleast 3 times and now i burned new copy a while ago (same ISO copy from MS) but still same problem. :(

i give up, let Vista OS has it for a while.

What also helped on my system is bumping up the MCP,SPP,FSB and Ram voltage just a notch. Windows 7 puts more stress on the memory controller and north bridge compaired to Vista. Windows 7 was completely unstable until I made those bios adjustments. Same system was stable on other partition with Vista. Also unchecking write cache in disk drives on Vista partition seemed to help make the install work. Don't give up yet.

This is sound like what is happening with this other thread that I found and this was the fix. The issue may lie with an unsigned driver. Anyway, check out this link and see if this helps you.

Windows 7 on raid 0 - windows-7
Read the walkthrough post at the bottom (as of Dec, 28 2009 15:39 Eastern)

He used the XP-x64 driver and it worked even thought the "correct" new driver did not work.

I hope this Helps.

I would also like to add that when burning an ISO always set your burner speed to 2x or as close as you can. I have experiance with Ubuntu and that was one of the major issues with downloading and instaling off burns.

I have a plasable solution for you

so let me get this right you have both windows vista disk and windows 7 disk. i have the same thing i also have kinda the same problem. my problem is that i have the drivers that work with windows vista, and they should also work with 7.

however i can not get widows 7 to install on them. the reason i cannot is because the windows vista driver that i use is unsigned and window 7 will not let me use unsigned drivers for any of my hardware. i can make windows 7 installation see my hard drives in the setup screen. but windows 7 does not seem to trust them because they have not been signed by the manufacturer. this is normaly because it is eather unconpatible or the manufacturer has not tested it with that operating system/ that does not mean it wont work. but it does cause a problem when windows wont install them because windows 7 does not trust it.

i think i have found a way around that you see i installed windows vista at hom right now in RAID 0 its working fine. but i want windows 7, so when i get home i will not try to install windows 7, instead i will install all the windows vista updated and all the drivers, then i am going to try an upgrade install, hopefully this will be a useful loop hole in the installing of the vista drivers that are unsigned. then if everything goes right windows 7 will install leaving the drivers that are in use intact.

this avoiding dealing with widows 7 driver restrictions. then i intend to update any new drivers out for windows 7 and leaving the needed vista ones until a signed driver is out.

and one more thing if you still have trouble please check you SATA cables or replace them they can go bad out of nowhere. it is also better if your hard drives are the same make and model. (this is as of yet untested)

Um I doubt that will work. You certainly can install vista and upgrade to win 7 but even in the upgrade it will not let you use an unsigned driver and you run the risk of getting stuck half way between vista and win 7 with no roll back. Is there no signed driver for the RAID?

BTW this is a 5 month old thread so dont expect any response
