Hey guys, this is the first time I have reached out to try and fix this problem. I haven't been able to do updates for a couple years and I have been working on this off and on.
I am reluctant to post this, since it may be the cause of the problems.... however... I think my problem stems from messing around with the drivers when I original purchased the computer. It could have also occurred when I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional... Everything seemed to work fine like updates for about a year or so. Didn't notice the updates not working until about a 2 years ago when I realized my laptop was having issues playing FFXI and I found that my graphics card was not using any resources, as well as other things seem to not working. Such as sfc /scannow, when I run it I get an error after about 10-15 minutes saying "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.", and when I run DXDiag I get very little information on my computer with a lot of N/A's, though the amount of RAM is correct as is the video memory (I think) despite not showing the correct graphics processor.

I went to school for this kind of stuff and have just fooled myself all these years, acting like I actually know stuff. I mean I may have been able to figure it out back then. But not a chance now.

I can't even remember any of the steps I followed from other peoples solutions and posts over the past... So if the previous stuff isn't actually needed for your information... I apologize for wasting your time. Actually I did this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

So yeah, the error code I get when I check for new updates.... Windows Update Error Code 80073712.

And I think I managed to attach that CBS stuff... I have no idea what it actually contains...

I apologize in advanced for being a complete idiot.

Also when I try and do that SURT, I am unable to actually download the file for Windows 7 64-bit SP1.

Well that is a bit of the problem.... When I try and run anything such as Speccy, which I used a few months ago...
I get these kind of results...

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/7GSYo1XRZ6f1F8u4KSDQf8f

I don't know for sure... but I think it might mean I have bigger issues....

I also try running that other one and I get "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quick, the application will close immediately"
And it seems to throw an "Index out of range" exception.

I have never heard of those programs ever causing a problem.

So I guess will will have to wait for someone to read your CBS logs.

Figured that would be the case. However the programs aren't what cause the problem, at least I don't think they are. I am pretty sure my machine is returning variables that the programs are unable to deal with... I just think that Speccy is programmed to deal with the exceptions in a better way.

Hi ScottMacFreedom

Relevant part of CBS log

CBS Failed to get CSI store. [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT]

Run attached & try WU again, probably won't work.

I'd recommend Repair Install

Do you have Win7x64 DVD & 25 character Windows product key?

I think I lost this battle. I tried to find my key but all it returns is "Product Key was not found". And seeing as I got this copy back when I was in school through MSDNAA, I'm not going to be able to recover it.

I really appreciate the help though guys. I figured this was something a bit more than just updates.

Find Product key attached & check your PM (private message)

You can also try magic jellybean or belarc advisor to obtain product key.

That VBS script only returns a bunch of 'B' characters as the key.
MJB outputs is also the same... And Belarc gives me "Key: ends with BBBBB"
So yeah... I just assume my registry is completely broken or something like that...

And I checked my PMs. If I don't need a key then I will try it tomorrow.

If you don't have valid product key, windows won't activate.
