Hello,

I am working on a Dell N5110 with Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) running in it. Few hours ago, I saw that the D drive (200 GB approx.) in my computer is missing. Previously I hadn't installed anything that might have caused this problem. I tried fixing it with "Active Partition Recovery Toolkit", it is showing me the data present in the drive but is not able to recover it. It keeps on showing some kind of an error.

I also checked the status of the drive through "Disk Management". There it is shown as 200 GB of free space. I have some valuable data in there. Is there any way I could recover the whole drive ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Cheers!

If you have System Restore turned on for the D: drive, I would try that first. This tells you how
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html For future use, as soon as you get the problem corrected make an image of all of your drives using Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download and you can restore the image in 20 minutes and correct the problem. Let us know if the System Restore works.

Your statement "It keeps on showing some kind of an error" is not very informative and is an important part of the equation in trying to find a solution. Please post the exact language or at least as close to the exact language as possible.

Also, is "Drive D" a partition or a separate drive?

Thanks for the quick response guys. I never made a restore point for that partiton. However I have found a link that discusses about the problem I'm facing. Hope the following link gives you a clear idea of what is wrong.

@SirGeorge: "Drive D" is a partition.

Knowledge Base: Recovery Errors: Active@ Partition Recovery Questions & Answers

The partition recovery software that I'm using shows the following reason under the "recovery status" pane.
"Signature 0x55AA is missing in MBR/Parttion Table"

It is also discussed in the link I pasted above.

Hope this helps.

The solution on the link you posted suggests using "low-level" tools, which is not a good sign. I am no expert on data recovery, so I am going to take a pass on any suggestions.

Good luck and I hope you find a way to save your data.

If you're really only trying to recover the files, you might look into using Recuva -- it's a free data recovery tool.

Thank you everyone for taking time and replying to my post. I tried using Partition Wizard but it kept on crashing when it was winding up the scan results. I don't know what the problem was, maybe a bug. I had to format my PC and it resolved the issue. None of my data is lost. So I'm guessing it might have been a virus or windows went corrupt.
