Hey,
I have a question. My C: drive has two (non-system and non-hidden) folders which I do not think should be there - these are 'boot' and 'clean'.
I do not think 'boot' should be there as I already have a system folder named 'Boot' which is identical to the 'boot' folder. However, I cannot remove it as the computer will not let me.
I tried to delete 'clean', however I am unable to - it says that the item is no longer located in C:. When I open the 'clean' folder it contains a subfolder 'log' which contains one folder, which, when I try to open it, claims that 'C:\clean\log\2011-08-12_18:29boot-repair07 refers to a location that is unavailable'.
So my question is can I delete these folders? And if so, how?
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

You need to take ownership of the folders and change permissions so that you have full access. If you still cannot delete them, try using a boot time delete program like killbox, or use a live linux CD and delete the files from inside linux.

You could also do a registry cleanup with CCleaner. This sounds like left over junk from software that you don't have anymore. If the application that created the folders is no longer on your system, cleaning out any left over reg entries could help.

This could also be from malware. You might want to search on the names of the directories and see if anything comes up at the malware forums.

If you are still getting a message that a name doesn't exist, you might have to do chkdisk to fix an error in the directory.
