Can you give an example before and after text? I'm not sure what you mean. Also when you say in Explorer, do you mean when renaming files?

Globally, that's gonna be a tough one! I know for explorer a great cheap tool is "Better File Rename" (which I can't live without personally)

Are you trying to get rid of spaces in filenames?
Like "My File Name.txt" becomes "My_File_Name.txt" or am I imagining it?

Yes I am. I want all file names to have a underscore no matter where in windows save a file or rename a file.

sounds like you need a keyboard reassignment program. try keytweak*, it's free. seems like a lot of trouble switching back and forth tho when shift-hyphen does the same thing.

the half teach mode allows you to map the '-/_' key (key 12) to the space bar (key 61). you'd still need to hit shift tho as it cannot invert the key function & it requires remapping/rebooting to switch back and forth. you may be able to find an easier remap utility elsewhere with google.

(my logitech wireless keyboard allows me to assign shift-hyphen to one of the extra 'hot' keys along the top, so i only have to press one key to get an underscore, but it won't so map the space bar.)

make an .ahk script. To substitue _ for space in Explorer windows you could use this

GroupAdd,ExplorerGroup, ahk_class CabinetWClass
GroupAdd,ExplorerGroup, ahk_class ExploreWClass

#IfWinActive,ahk_group ExplorerGroup
  Space::_
Return

That's it.

If you run it as is and leave it in the tray, everything you type in an Explorer Window will have the substitution. If you just have this script

Space::_

Then the substitution will be system wide.

marsmimar - The two links you posted, lead to the same program. It writes to the windows registry which can be dangerous.

MilesAhead - I install the program and create a script with this command inside "Space::_", that's it ? And anywhere in Win7 when I hit spacebar a underscore will be placed ?

You run it and leave it in the System Tray. Look in AutoHotkey_L help file. Look for "Hotkey" in the index.

But basically key substitution scripts are that simple. If your script is
r::R

then every time you press the letter 'r' it will be capitalized.

I created the script for space, but AutoHotKeys prevents me from creating a space, anywhere. Example, create a text document and save it "info of something" and after each word hit space bar, it won't work it prevents space bar from working ?

Every time you press the spacebar you are going to get a '_' character. Isn't that what you asked for?
