To only have the substitution when a particular window is active see
#IfWinActive directive

I think I mentioned it before. Also there are lots of examples in the help. You can copy and paste to a new file and build on them to start your own app.

AHK has a bit of a strange syntax. I recommend always using AutoHotKey_L since it has the newest improvements and has object support built in.

edit: to give you a head start, I use these lines to have the hotkey only active in Explorer windows

GroupAdd,ExplorerGroup, ahk_class CabinetWClass
GroupAdd,ExplorerGroup, ahk_class ExploreWClass

#IfWinActive,ahk_group ExplorerGroup
