Hi,

My PC is acting very sluggish and I believe there are some viruses or trojans I can't seem to remove. When I watch Netflix or XFinity the video is sluggish and choppy and I have to refresh several times. I am connected through Wi-Fi. I also have a Chromebook that is lightning fast on the same wi-fi.

The Processes that are running on my laptop are:

csrss.exe
DiskDeFrag.exe
IMF.exe
winlogin.exe

All four of these processes are BLANK in the User Name and Description in the Task Manager. When I right click on then to see the File Location or Properties, nothing happens. How do I get these off my laptop?

Thank you in advance.

In Task Manager Right-click on crss.exe and then click Go to location. If its anywhere other than System32, it could be a virus.

DiskDefrag.exe and IMF.exe seem to be from IObit programs. I would remove IObit Malware Fighter and IO Advanced System Care. Both do MUCH more bad than good.

Winlogin.exe is also a good service but other malware/viruses try to name themselves after it. Go to https://www.virustotal.com/ and upload the file to see what they say.

csrss.exe and winlogon.exe are the names of critical system processes. If they are located in windows\system32 they are likely legitimate. To see their descriptions and other information you must select "Show processes from all users". This will run Task manager with an elevated account which is able to access this information. This assumes you are using an admin account.

In Process Explorer select "Run as Administrator" in the file menu. This will run the program with an elevated admin account. Without doing this you will not see all information.

I tried this, then a window popped up

Runas
Select the program to run and then you will be prompted for alternate credentials.

I uninstalled IObit which got rid of the other processes.

What are the other reasons that my laptop is so slow then?

Examine the entries in Startup tab and Services tab when typing MSCONFIG in the search box? List them all here.
