Solved Unmounting HDD

Hello everyone.

I have two HDD currently active on my PC, both has no partition ( C: & D: ). Drive C is the windows drive while the D mostly contains my mp3 and avi files. I am wondering if, does unmounting drive D will save me watts on my PSU?

Hello Kingdm,

Sorry, but no. Not unless you physically unplug the HDD, or set Windows 7 to turn off idle HDD's after X amount of minutes of being idle will it save you power.

Even if you did unplug it, you would save very little--less than 10 watts.

Thanks for the inputs, I'm not fully aware of Power Options here in Windows. Glad you mentioned it.

Ignatzatsonic is correct. The very small amount of watts that you would save would probably not be worth the trouble, and having the convenience of an extra HDD available for backups or whatever you would like to store on it.
