Was having issues with my Win7 pro system I built years ago. Decided to wipe hard drive and install new again. A little over 200 updates to do. I get through 2/3 of them (i do them in batches of 10). Next series crashes the system stating something changed bios or file system on a black screen. After going through this twice, I started doing disc image as I progressed through incremental updates (10 at a time). Computer is running fine with 1/3 left to update and disc image just done. Do the next batch, crash. Reinstall the disc image that was working, crash. Did some googling and found some steps to try and fix the MBR. That did not help but one of the steps showed how to shut off the UEFI in the BIOS (secure boot). I shut it off and computer runs fine. Its an ASUS motherboard running a I7 4930K chip. Any help appreciated.

be more specific on what model the asus motherboard is since there could be many asus boards that can support the intel i7-4930k cpu chip.

you can use tools like Speccy or Hwinfo to gather the model # of the asus board.

Hi Bearcatrp,

The initial run of WU's show what the current OS requires. Once certain WU's are downloaded and installed you will get further WU's that didn't appear in the first run as some of those will be pre-requisite WU's!

Therefore it always best to do them as a whole rather than in batches.

A quicker and more preferred method of updating is to download and run the SIMPLIX pack [futher information available if required].

I hope this helps!

Hi RolandJS,

How do I get simplix? My acer aspire runs windows 7 professional, 7604?? I am at work, not in front of laptop.

SIMPLIX - Running/Adding Updates Procedure

Download the latest SIMPLIX UpdatePack [for Win 7 SP1 x86-x64] from here => SIMPLIX UpdatePack.

Run the UpdatePack => click Install.

It will update your OS automatically [it will re-boot a couple of times during the update process which is normal] and DOESN’T include any telemetry updates or processor checks [disables/patches detection of processor generation and hardware support when scanning or downloading updates through WU]. It installs the correct USB3 drivers and cleans up when it has finished. It requires NO user input.

I hope this helps!

Paul, my defenses prevent simplix downloading, can you googleMyDrive park it? Will this forum allow you to send it and me to receive it?

I got it -- school blocked, home did not block, I got the exe. :)

Since I was not in UEFI mode, tried updating the rest of the updates. Got them, rebooted. working so far. rebooted into bios to change back to EUFI mode in boot options. Nope. Still same issue. Here is a screen shot what comes up.
