Hi all.
My problem is my Nephews computers, He lives in a long term hospital and has no means to connect to the internet. He does however run two computers to help him with his hobby of studio music production. One of the computers, a 4/5 year old toshiba laptop OS vista home premium has not had an update/service pack from new.

So, I was wondering if there was a way I could d/load things for him and transfer the data to his computers via usb drive. At least security and hardware updates?
Any help at all would be appreciated. I hope I posted this in the correct place (first post this forum :) ).

Thanks in advance.

Dodger.

I have a recording studio (I use Sonar X3).

If the PC's are only used for music production there is no need for any updates. I have several friends with recording studios that never put their recording system on line and have never had any Windows/Security updates. Most updates are for OS fixes or security issues. Since he is not on line he does not need the security issues and if the Music software is running without problems there is no Operating System issues that are critical.

In other words, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The Service Packs are definitely worth installing - even if the later patches are not worth the hassle. The SP's ensure that you have some decent stability fixes and speed increases in place, and significantly reduce the chances of crashes.

You can download the Service Packs from the MS Download Center - Microsoft Download Center

Hi , I've tried several systems and I am now happy using Portable Update: Update Windows in an isolated environment. The first. The best. A bit strange to use at 1st, so read some doc or the reviews !. 1st time the program has to download some stuff from microsoft website, mine always hanged on last bits of 1 file, disabling antivirus just for that solved the problem. Real cool thing is that it uses same thing as the native windows update, so all updates done are visible in ctrlpanel :-)
