Solved Updating to Win 10

I guess it's been asked quite a lot, but what program should I be looking for so I can update from Win 7 to Win 10 without having to buy the whole Win 10 program? Also, can I do so without wiping over all my programs and documents that I've presently got installed?

Well, I've updated, which took several hours last night. Question is though, before I sign up to the Win 10 forum, why is it that my new Internet Explorer acts more like it's on dialup? It-is-absolute-c***! Clunky and really, really, sloooow…I've checked and both Chrome and Firefox are okay. Is it because Microsoft wants us to all go over to this "Edge"?

Internet Explorer is no longer supported, so it could be some issue related to that.

Microsoft Edge is the newer version if wanted.

Thanks! I'll have a go at it. I've been taking some time just getting the hang of Edge. Not too bad so far. If I can now get my Faves list transferred it should be A-Okay!

Well, I did it. It saved all my old faves to their own unique folder within my new faves list, but that isn't any problem. I guess that's me almost totally off Win 7 then! It served me well for the long time I used it. I think I'll still keep it around as backup, just in case.

Hey Brink, sorry to keep this thread alive even though it's been solved, but I thought I'd ask this here instead of using up more forum room unnecessarily. Well, I've been wondering, why did Microsoft force us to upgrade to Edge rather than simply updating Win 7? From what I can see there isn't much difference between the two operating systems, and those that are different I could see Win 7 easily doing, like the moving graphics on YouTube.

But I thought you had to upgrade to Win 10 in order to use Edge? And isn't support for Win 7 stopping as well?

Only the old Edge. The new replacement Edge is based on Chromium and is available for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and MacOS.
