Upgrade from GTX 690

Hi guys,
I decided to upgrade my GTX 690 because it doesn't give me good performance in double precision and sometimes i have issues with only 2 GB of VRAM with 3 screens.

I was thinking to move to Radeon cards, and i was looking for a crossfire of stock R9 290X.
in gaming a single R9 290X should perform 10-15% slower than a GTX 690, but with only 1 GPU.
I have some questions:

- will R9 290X run DirectX 12?
- how much is double precision performance of a R9 290X card? (GTX 690 has 1/24 performance compared with Quadro cards)
- Will a Core i7 3770K @4,0 GHz bottleneck 2xR9 290 cards?
- Will a dual-GPU R9 card be released?

I already have a good 1000W PSU and a good and fresh case.

Stock as in reference cards? I would recommend you load custom coolers on to both of them unless you want a nuclear explosion of heat xD.
I dont think a bottleneck would be a problem as it is a top CPU you have.
According to the article, All current cards will have support with DX12(Wait for 100% confirmation)
There were specs leaked of an r9 290x-2 so i think their will be.
Mantle is also a nice feature that comes with AMD cards, I think it will be a big hit in the future.

I have an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard which can run two cards in crossfire in PCI Express 3.0 8x/8x mode. Will it be a bottleneck compared to a single R9 295X2 in PCI Express 3.0 16x mode?

The 295x2 will be watercooled with 2x coldplate coolers on the GPU

If the price is right i would bite $1000.00 seems pretty fair when just one card cost like $800.000 off the bat

a sinlge r9 290x gives the 4gb gtx690 a very good run for its money. its almost too close to call.

so if youre struggling to play games on 3 monitors because gpu memory is holding you back, just 1 r9 290 would do a better job.

A GTX 690 already has dual GPUs. A 780ti doesn't. 690 has more cores. It is actually 2gb per GPU.

Man, I own this card since it was released, I know very well his specs.
But the difference between GTX 690 and a GTX 780 Ti OC model seems to be minimum. And GTX 780 Ti has only 1 GPU and 3 GB VRAM...

The only thing is that GTX 690 has higher value.

Yes it would, but i don't want to waste money in 2 GTX 780 Ti.
I have this opportunity, to change my GTX 690 with a GTX 780 Ti Windforce. Should I? Would i notice a great performance boost?

If not, I'll try to sell my GTX 690 to buy 2x R9 290 or R9 290X (and spending some money...)

Right it`s 2 GB per gpu. But you don`t add them together, just as I don`t benefit from the other 2 GB on my second 770.
