have gateway dx4860-ub20p, windows 7, i3 processor, hd graphics, hard drive 1tb, 6gb memory, dvd, super multidrive, multi-in-1 media card reader. 64 bit. intel (r) graphics.
novice home user, considering upgrading video card, cause some sites will not play video, period.
is this a good ideal?, if so, please provide a step by step procedure that I can follow, including recommendation for upgrade video card, model, etc.
I keep all drivers updated, but video problems remain. or maybe there's some other solution available that i'm not aware of.
any comments would be most appreciated.
thank-you and have a wonderful day,
john

If some websites won't play video, then I kind of doubt that getting a video card will help because it will probably have roughly the same 2D processing power that your onboard video has. The main thing that getting a video card will help with is 3D performance (like video games).

This could be an issue with Flash or Silverlight, or whatever the sites are using for the videos. What browser are you using? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc?

ie10, the website i'm having trouble with is Houston Texans. in the past, I was able to view any or all videos. today, nothing.

a couple of months ago, I purchased home theater system and now watch Netflix with nero downloaded. I wonder if that could be the issue?

Just as an experiment, can you try with Firefox and/or Google Chrome? Make sure you don't allow them to become the default browser.

I agree. Start with another browser first.

From the descriptions, this sounds like a straight software issue.

Good news being you shouldn't need to upgrade your card.

It could be if that's the same time you lost the ability to watch embedded videos in IE10.

You're welcome!

I admit that I want to find out why it won't work in IE now, but sometimes all that matters is finding a way to get done what you want to get done. For this reason, I keep both IE and Google Chrome around just in case I ever come across a site that won't work for me in Firefox.
