upgrading from Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit. (ultimate)

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, I was a Desktop/Network engineer (before w7 came out).

I would like to hear any tips or tricks on upgrading from 32 to 64. I know you have to completely reformat ETc. To give you a slight heads up my HDD is already partitioned and its a new notebook 8MB fitted Ramm (but obviously only 2 MB being utilized (careful choice of words there!) I am currently checking first my hardware drivers to make sure there compatible.

Any other suggestions I know the textbook way of starting the procedure but any suggestions would be much appreciated.

There was a thread a while back on doing this but that was from Vista so I am not sure if it applies to me.

There's no magic way to upgrade. Just a plain "clean" install (reformat the hard drive). Install Windows and it will install some (maybe most) of the needed drivers. Whatever else you need should be obtained (first) from the PC vendor (Samsung in this case) and then from other sources if needed. The Samsung provided sound driver should be used, if available, as most cases non-vendor sound drivers either do not work or do not work correctly. Windows will install a generic (basic function) "HD Audio Codec" sound driver and that will get you going until you get the correct driver.

Bottom line, reinstalling Win 7 64 bit is no different than installing Win 7 32 bit or even older Operating Systems.

There are no tricks. Just drop in your 64 bit dvd and away you go.

I think you meant 8GB not 8MB

As the others have mentioned just load the 64 bit disk and follow the on screen directions and have your laptop driver disk on the ready as well. Please use this as a chance to be very selective on any bloatware you choose or not to install if applicable....less is always more !
