Hello This is my first actual thread and am DESPERATE for answers asap (as I have assignments due by monday and my pc has crashed). I am not much of a computer wiz so I'll say everything I know.
A few days ago I left my pc and when I came back it was trying to upgrade and had reached 100% on the upgrade but had frozen. I (being the idiot I am) decided to manually switch off my pc. When I tried to turn my pc on it would not go past the "windows starting" screen. I then reinstalled windows like 4/5 times hoping it would get fix the problem but this came with no avail. It was until recently I installed windows that It took me to the login screen. The problem with this is I had not set up a password and even when I reinstalled it recently and put in a password the pc was not recognizing it. On the part where there is supposed to be a picture on the login screen is blank and no matter what I do nothing seems to help. If there is ANYONE who would be willing to help, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help as It's nearly 2 in the morning this side and I need to be up by 5 for work.
I have tried the windows repair thing but it says there is nothing wrong.
Thanks In advance

Sounds like you have hard disk errors. Use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html to select Repair Your Computer and get to the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html. Then select the command prompt. Do the following:
chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:
chkdsk /r e:
chkdsk /r f:
.etc until you get the message that the volume could not be opened for direct access. For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run chkdsk again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

I realize you may only have one disk show up in Windows explorer, but you may have more than one disk through recovery options. This is because the system creates a hidden boot partition (which will be C: in recovery), you may have a recovery partition for your PC that is hidden (which will be D: in recovery), and you will have your primary Windows partition (which may be E: in recovery). A custom PC will likely have at least C: and D: to scan.

The scans take ~2 hours for every 500 GB. I would advise that you get some rest while you wait. :)

Sorry for the late response...I have checked the disks and on one of the disks it says "Windows found problems with the file system that could not be corrected." and when i ran the startup repair again it gave me the same message....

could i then rather back up my files then format everything and start fresh or would I still need to use seatools?

You still need to use SeaTools. If the drive is failing, it is best to find out sooner rather than later. Formatting and re-installing would only delay the inevitable...
