USB 3.0 Front Panel Header

I have a Corsair case with an Asus P8Z77 LX motherboard.

I have already had Corsair send me a replacement front panel connection for the USB 3.0 ports, and am now stuck at what to do.

Basically USB 2.0 connection speeds are abysmal over the front panel USB 3.0 ports. USB 3.0 (Hard disk and flash drive) drop connections promptly. Sometimes things can be copied from them successfully at a reasonable speed. But writing any data to them it always, every time drops out and Windows 7 reports that the device is no longer available.

Latest drivers are installed. The USB 3 header connection on the motherboard is definitely USB 3 according to the manual, and the rear USB 3 ports work fine, no issues at all.

Any ideas?

Corsair has had a lot of problems with their front panels. Since the back ports are working your drivers should be OK. I would get one of these adapters for the internal USB 3 ports and see if it works. This will eliminate the front panel.

If that works then either get Corsair to replace the panel again or look for a replacement panel at Amazon or other retailers.

I suppose there could be something wrong with the internal USB header, but Jim is probably right.

One thing to check: I have noticed that a new win 7 installation will often not install all the USB drivers needed on newer motherboards. There will be little or no indication in the device manager about this. How I usually spot this is a lack of USB devices listed. My Asus board has 13 USB items listed in the device manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. If you had say, only 8, that would be a sign.
This is remedied by running the MB installation disk, then updating as needed... perhaps a long shot but very easy to check.

Have had a replacement USB 3 header, and cable from Corsair - Same issue. Also purchased an Asus USB 3 front panel header - Same issue.

Where do I go from here. Is the motherboard at fault, or drivers or configuration?

The latest Intel USB 3.0 drivers are installed from Asus support site, and the issue remains.

I think it is highly prompted not to plug any USB 3.0 devices during an OS install.

Certainly seems like the USB header on the MB is faulty. I've not seen this before, but you have done everything you could to test it. Contact Asus tech support and start an RMA.
