Hello, I just installed Windows 7 64 bit from a computer that had windows 8. It works great, only problem is that the USB 3.0 Ports will not work. My 2.0 port works but not the two 3.0's I have on the other side.

My Computer is a Asus K55N DB81. Can anyone please help me solve this problem and get them working?

Thanks in Advance.

Do the USB 3.0 ports show up in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation mark, needing drivers for Win7?

If you provide the hardware ID from those problem devices, possibly the Win7 version of the needed drivers can be found.

Right click on Computer, then select Properties, then select Device Manager. Go down and expand either the USB group, or perhaps the "unknown devices" group, to find the problem USB ports which don't have drivers installed. Right-click on the problem item, select Properties, then click on the Details tab, and drop-down the list for "Property" and select the second item in the dropdown list... Hardware ID.

Provide the complete Hardware ID strings here. It's possible the driver for this hardware is available from the manufacturer if not from ASUS.

Did you not get all your Win7 drivers from this ASUS download support site for the K55N? Did you install the "AMD chipset" for the motherboard? I would have thought that's where the USB drivers would have been included.

It was a Unknown Device. Not DeviceS, just 1 device even though I have 2 USB 3.0 ports.

And yes I downloaded all the drivers for Windows 7 from the Asus webiste for my K55N specifically.

Some searching revealed this driver for this part, from multiple manufacturers using AMD chipset.

Can't hurt to try the ASUS version.

Hard to believe that the Chipset Driver provided by ASUS didn't also contain the USB 3.0 and AHCI driver. Does this AMD chipset driver apply to your machine???

I meant to get back and edit the post last night. I installed the AMD catalyst manager because I seemingly forgot to. I had other installations going on and it wouldn't let me so I decided to do it later, and forgot . Thanks ALOT for reminding me about it though, USB 3.0's work GREAT.

I'm confused.

Did you run a driver you'd previously downloaded from the ASUS site and had intended to run but had forgotten to, which was for AMD video but which also included the missing USB 3.0 drivers? So if you'd run this previously you wouldn't have had any problem with USB 3.0?

Or did you download one of the drivers from the two links I provided in my earlier post, which happened to include both Catalyst video driver for AMD video in the laptop as well as the desired USB 3.0 driver? So by running this you got not only the correct Catalyst video drivers which you should have installed, as well as solving the missing USB 3.0 driver problem? And if so, specifically which file did you download?

This is what Happened.

I installed Windows 7, onto my Asus, then I got all the drivers for my K55N (Windows 7 64x Drivers) from Asus Website Here

https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K55N/HelpDesk_Download/

I was multitasking, and installing multiple software at once. So when I tried to install the AMD Driver for my Asus, It gave me a pop up box like "You have other software installing, wait for that to finish first". SO, After I thought I installed everything, I went to go use my USB 3.0 Ports, but they weren't working. That's when I came here to post. As you can see, I FORGOT to install the AMD driver. Then when you posted:

"Did you not get all your Windows 7 drivers from this ASUS download support site for the K55N? Did you install the "AMD chipset" for the motherboard? I would have thought that's where the USB drivers would have been included."

It reminded me "Hey I forgot to install that driver". So I installed it and the 3.0's worked Perfectly after that.

SO basically, Yes your first statement is what happened. :D

I see. You confused me with your wording in post #5 when you mentioned installing "AMD catalyst manager" as your solution. From your now clarifying recap I think you meant to talk about "AMD chipset driver" as the actual solution.

AMD Catalyst is the name of their video card driver package, for graphics. The "AMD chipset driver" is for the motherboard-specific AMD chipset and related onboard devices, such as USB 3.0 ports. Normally, installing the chipset driver off of the usual vendor-provided software CD that comes with new motherboards (or probably more-current current versions of all of the software if available from the vendor support site) is the VERY FIRST thing I do when installing Windows from scratch... specifically to get all the hardware on the mobo working properly. Additional drivers for additional peripheral hardware (e.g. soundcard, graphics card, LAN network chip, etc.) go in next, but the chipset driver really should always go in first. But as long as it goes in eventually, that's the bottom line.

Anyway, I'm glad you got this resolved finally. Mission accomplished. Yes, the chipset driver package is where I would have expected support for the USB 3.0 ports to be, and you confirmed.

Glad to have helped out.
