Solved "USB 3.0 This device can perform faster" message even though connected

naushikaa, did you solve your problem with the Touro 1TB HDD?

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but it was still bothering me, and I just recently found what I think might be a solution.

I recently had to go to an archaically old backup of my laptop. Once it was running from the backup, my USB 3 drive would not detect as USB 3 anymore. So I opened device manager, and something made me suspect that the "eXtensible" USB 3.0 driver was not installed, or only had a USB 2 driver running. So I went to HP's site, and downloaded the current "eXtensible" USB 3 driver. After running that, I have not had my USB 3 drive detect as USB 2 again - always Super-speed USB 3, and the speed is evident.

I'm hoping our problems may be caused by the same issue, and doing something similar would solve your problem.

My new "eXtensible" USB 3 driver version reported under Windows is 1.0.10.255. Unfortunately I did not record the old driver version before I restored the backup. And I'm pretty sure that I would not have been running the USB 2 driver that was still in the laptop backup, as I at least had USB 3 detection sometimes.

I experience this issue intermittently on my PC using flash drives. In my case, the cause seems to be incomplete insertion of the drive into the port. On the front of the tower case, there is a plastic housing and it's very easy to not fully insert the flash drives or USB cables into the USB 3.0 ports. If I push on that flexible plastic housing and fully seat the flash drive or cable, I don't get the warning message.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with the rear USB 3.0 ports as there is no plastic housing surrounding those ports, so full insertion is easy to achieve.

hi
i get this warning when i'm connecting my samsung galaxy note 8 to my pc

the reason why this happen is because you need two things

1. a usb 3.0 port on your computer(obviously)
2. you need a super fast usb 3.0 cable (it has a blue lip on it AND the cable is thicker then normal usb cables)

you can get them for a few dollars, using my samsung phone charging usb c cable is not good enough apparently (despite its from my fast charging plug...AND its genuine samsung cable)

if you want fast speeds you need the usb3.0 cable which has a blue lip on it just like the usb3.0 ports which are blue too
