USB device detection - Any way to reset it?

I have been wanting to find a way to reset windows 7 so when I plug in a device into a particular USB port it detects it as though for the very first time (installing device drivers message etc). Disabling or uninstalling drivers do not seem to instigate a 'new device routine'. Any ways of doing this?

The reason I am requesting this is due to a curious issue that I am trying to fix more out of fascination than anything. I have discovered that if I plug in a particular mouse on one particular USB port on one particular installation of Windows 7 (I have another install on a seperate drive for testing), the 'Allow this device to wake computer' tick box makes no difference (ticked or not the mouse click always wakes computer). After extensive testing, its only when that mouse is plugged into that usb port on just one particular installation of windows 7. I was hoping to try resetting windows so it detects that mouse as if for the very first time. Any ideas?

I am ssuming you do check the "remove device drivers" checkbox when removing the device? If that's the case you can try a Microsoft Fix It tool: Tips for solving problems with USB devices

Thank you for the response, I tried it and its a very useful function, but it still did not fix this strange issue. By uninstalling a nonpresent device it still does not produce that 'plugged in for the very first time' response from Windows, it just immediately installed (in this case), the standard Microsoft mouse driver with no - detected new hardware response. I assumed that if I could get windows to recognize this mouse as a completely new piece of hardware it might fix the issue on that one particular USB port. I know I am knit picking here but I am just curious why this would happen on one particular mouse/one particular USB port/one particular Windows installation! I am assuming there is a generic Microsoft mouse driver that is installed somewhere upon first detection of a mouse that lurks around even when you use the uninstall device.

Then do a SysPrep (like you are moving your hard drive to a new computer, just without the moving to a new computer part):

this will make your pc as if you just installed windows, except you will not loose any programs or files. (make sure to download installers for all your drivers because you're going to need them)

if that wouldn't work then there is something wrong with your USB port / motherboard chipset.

If you really want to do this just because of a tickbox issue then that is desparate.. but this should fix it.

I dont think I am concerned enough about doing all that for one tick box, I was more curious than anything.

There is nothing wrong with the USB port or chipset as every other device plugged into this port including other mice behaves as it should and on a seperate installation of windows on the same machine, allows that mouse to work correctly on that USB port. I would bet, some small corruption upon original installation of this mouse on this particular installation on windows. Obviously not enough to warrant a reinstall though.
