Hello everybody! By now (if you have seen my other threads) you are getting tired of me looking for help :P but I still have not fixed this problem. USB devices are making my computer freeze and I will list below. I am uploading a video onto youtube as I am typing this. Also I tested all these devices on all 6 of my USB ports on my W7 Desktop the same results and all 3 USB ports on my W7 Laptop. They all work on my laptop. ALSO THERE IS NO "SAFELY REMOVE DEVICE" AT ALL.

USB Devices that freeze my PC (AT ONE STAGE THESE DEVICES WORKED)

  • Toshiba Flash Drive 2gb
  • WD Elements External Hard Drive 320gb; WD3200E035-00
  • Lexar Flash Drive 4gb
USB Devices that DON'T freeze my PC

  • Edifier USB Speakers
  • Logitek LX310 Laser Wireless Keyboard and mouse
  • PowerWave Xbox360 rip off controller
  • My Mobile Phone
  • My Camera used to make the video
  • GH3 X-Plorer guitar Xbox360 USB
VIDEO
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gqwn4rFYpM"]YouTube- USB Hard/Flash Drive freezes windows 7 D:[/ame]

Thank you and if you need specs they are all on my page, feel free to ask about my pc/specs more though.

How can I check this? I have forgotten how to get there.

Thanks.

EDIT: Device Manager; All objects in device manager are fine, just average icons.

Just type device manager in search and select. I think there is a known problem with usb devces and they are working on a fix.

Only other thing i can think of is bios update, and do you have a sata drive, if so whats enabled under sata configuration? - sata as IDE, Raid or AHCI.

Okay, I did get device manager up. Everything looked fine. I will look around to see how to find if i have a sata drive and if its IDE raid or AHCI. After my computers hard dive in device manager it says ATA if that means anything.

ALSO these devices used to work on my pc they just stopped randomly. and i have re-installed my OS.

Also I have a sata drive because the cords are the new ones not the old ones, apparantly by google. Now Ill go look at the options. Looked at all options in boot... nothing about SATA or IDE raid or AHCI.

After Plugging in a USB it does still freeze. Although:
On-chip SATA Mode [Auto]
(Blanked out) PATA IDE Set to [Disabled]
SATA Port0/2 Set to [Ch.0 Master/Slave]
SATA Port1/3 Set to [Ch.1 Master/Slave]
Thats the only SATA related options in bios setup. I can see. Also After Opening up my PC The cord is plugged into SATA 2_0 and my DVD-Rom drive is SATA 2_1.

Try installing the intel matrix storage manager that could fix it as you dont get proper functinality without it :
You will find it at the intel site - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
Select chipsets - chipset software - intel(R) matrix storage manager - Select Operating System - select W7 (64bit OR 32 bit) - select drivers - select intel(R) matrix storage manager 8.9.0.1023 - download and install.
(make sure you don't download the floppy configuration utility by mistake) - it will show up if you select utilities.

You may need to install the latest intel chipset drivers firstly - set up a restore point firstly - the matrix storage driver may not be supported, but you will get the same error if it isnt - you can find them at the same site. Restore point is just a precaution. Select Intel chipset software installation utility this time - 9.1.1.1019
