USB Hub

I have a 4 port Belkin USB Hub which Windows 7 does not automatically recognize.
I normally have to remove the main usb cable or the power cable and then reconnect to make it work.
Is there a solution to this problem?

how many other un-powered USB devices are installed? Keyboard, Mouse, controller, etc?

I don't know if this is your case, but I have 2 powered USB hubs. Even with the power, in essence what you are doing is trying to run several usb devices from 1 usb port. the hub is plugged into 1 usb port and everything you plug into the hub runs off that same port. They run not very well I might add. That's why my 2 hubs are in my spare parts box.

I have Keyboard, Mouse and Printer also plugged into usb ports at the back of the computer. I noticed that when I started the computer this morning that the webacam I have plugged into the port was not recognized. When I disconnected the power to the hub I received a message saying that there was insufficient power to operate the hub but when I plugged the power cable back in the webcam was recognized. This is a very annoying problem. I have had this hub for years and never had a problem with XP or even Ubuntu. Thanks.

Looks as though this is going to be one of those problems which come and go, to-day when I started my computer the hub is working fine. Will see if this keeps up.

I have 2 powered external usb hubs ( I have tried two different ones)and am having a very similar problem. The usb hub is fine but if I restart the computer or turn on from shutdown the hub is not recognized and all my devices don't work. If I unplug and replug the usb cable from the hub back into the computer everything is fine. It is very annoying. The hubs work fine on my other computer (Vista) with no problems. Not sure if it's my computer or windows 7.
What is your computer by the way?
Mine is a HP Model H8-1020.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron. I have found that I have to unplug the power and then plug it in again to get the hub to work.
I have known for some time what the the problem is but was hoping I was wrong.
The problem is that MICROSOFT produces CRAP and we unfortunate mortals have to put up with it.

Perhaps new USB hubs all around will solve problems. Dell and HP both supply versions of Windows they have modified to their liking, maybe they made windows into crap? I have a Dell and an HP as well as my self-built PC. My build has no hardware issues....just saying.

Gunnyal, Have you considered the possibility that it may not be Microsoft's fault. Microsoft did not build your computer, did not manufacture your motherboard or your power supply. Dell did all of that. And Microsoft did not make your powered hub. I would also like to remind you that the USB ports on your machine are limited to a certain bandwidth. Your hub is plugged into 1 usb port most likely. If you have say 2 or 3 devices plugged into that hub, what you are doing is trying to run those 3 USB devices from 1 USB port. In the end, all of the devices are still connected to 1 usb port.

You are right about the computer essenbe. I bought a dynex powered usb hub and still could not get the usb hub working after restart on my HP.
I took my HP back to best buy and got an ASUS PC. I no longer have any problems with my USB hub. Everytime the computer reboots or is turned on all the ports work on the hub. Glad my problem got solved.

I'm Glad you have your problem solved. Just don't try to run too many things from that hub. But, glad you have it working.

My usb hub is still not working unless I disconnect the power and then plug it in again.
Surely there must be a solution to this problem.
