Solved USB Modem showing as CD ROM ?

This occurs only on my desktop,works perfect on the laptop,so this is what happens i plug it in the autorun starts i install the software then enter the pass/username and when it should connect it disconnects and stays like that,after the restart or unplug/replug the software is on but it says no device after it find the device it goes back to connecting then directly disconnecting and when looking at my computer it sometimes shows as a CD rom(which i don't even have) or it doesn't show anything,just today i did a fresh OS and the problem is still there,tested this on all USB ports including the case ports....

Are you supposed to install the software first and then connect the device? What does it say in the instructions?

I've always connected the device first then it autoruns to install the software (on my laptop),ill give it a try by installing the software first then connecting the device as you said.

EDIT : same just when its trying to connect it disconnects and says "no device" then it tries to reconnect and the same thing over an over.

The device could be misidentified in the USB stack (list of USB connected devices). This is based on the information that this is a known working modem.

You could try resetting the stack.
The easy way:

• Disconnect all USB connected devices except keyboard and mouse.
• Open Device Manager > scroll to Universal Serial Bus Controllers > expand that
• Right click on each item under Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Uninstall
• Continue until all items are uninstalled
• Restart the PC > Windows will reinstall all devices and create a new stack (list)
• Now try installing the modem according to the manufacturer's instructions

Note: if you have separate USB3.0 controller and you uninstall it from Device Manager you will need to reinstall the driver afterward. You could try leaving these alone if the device was never plugged into a USB3 port.

What exactly is the kind of modem are you plugging into a usb port.

Have you tried the ethernet cable from the modem to the PC motherboard?

Thanks guys but i found the problem.thing is when i ran it on the desktop i had to use an extra usb cable and thanks to that the modem did not rum as it should.
