USB version - which do I have?

How do I check which version of USB I have?

I am considering getting a USB 2.0 card if I don't have USB 2.0. I am using two external hard drives attached via USB. Wondering if this will speed things up much and if a USB card will reduce any bottleneck. Is having two drives attached like that something that would slow things down, rather than just one drive? My main drive is SSD.

You most likely have USB 2.0, since it's been the defacto standard for years. USB 3.0 is new, and usually you can tell the difference by looking at the connector in the computer. The plastic in the USB 3.0 connector is usually a color other than black, such as blue (as mine are).

Having more than one thing plugged into your USB jacks shouldn't slow something down, unless all the things are being plugged into a hub, then into one jack, It you're using multiple USB jacks, there should be no effective slowdown from port to port.

Why not get a USB 3.0 card? You will be covered for the future and USB 2.0 will still work on them.

USB 2.0 ports are black USB 3.0 ports are blue.
