Use jpg to open avi?

Wondering if anyone knows how to do this, I have looked around trying to find a way but no luck.

Like many people I have 100's of AVI videos. What I would like to do is to use jpgs to open these avi's.

I want to use an image of a movie poster to open the movie file rather then looking through a list of files. It would be so much easier to select a movie to watch by looking at the movie posters and double clicking one of those.

I'm sure it's possible but no idea how.

As far as I know, there is no way to open a video simply by selecting a jpg directly, however you can effect do that by using XMBC, which is something like WMC, only far, far better, and it is free.

How I would see that is a software that, within his own code and files, list the JPG files (probably movies cover/posters). Then, you will have to join every JPG and AVI within' the software. Then, after it'll act like a library.

If you try to do that within' Windows, I don't think it's possible. Programing a software for that wouldn't be THAT complicated (idea is rather simple) but I'm no programmer. And I don't know any software that might do that already.

I should also mention that you can do this using a program called Movie Collector. It is not a player, but a cataloging program that is capable of plugging into WMC, allowing selection of movies much in the fashion that you wanted. However, it is not free.

EDIT: It also permits selecting a movie directly from itself, which will in turn open the movie in a choice of players, like VLC, PowerDVD or Total Media.
