Use XP file sharing.

Hi, not sure is the right section but this is the only one about sharing (though most topics sound about online sharing), well I was wondering if there's a way to block a flder from other users but like XP, like when another user tries to acces the folder or any other file it gets an "Access Denied", I tried to do it in Windows 7 blocking my main folder but it blocked all the files inside, which doesn't work for me.
Any help?
To sum up I want to block my folder from other users but don't change any setting for my files.

How do I do that in Win7, the link you put is to share form XP to Seven I only have Seven.

The only way to do that is to set up another User account on both machines at which point the individual names will shows up on the share list and then you can choose which person to share or not share a particular file with.

I'm talking about folders not files and the sad part is I don't mean in a network but in my Home PC, I have a lil' brother that use the same PC that's always goofin around the files so I want to hide my files.

There are ways to limit access by using the Group Policy Editor. Either way you will need to set up a seperate User account with passwords to limit access to folders and other control panel options. You can also set up a User Guest account for him which limits access.

I search for any setting in the Grop Policy Editor and didn't find one, but yes my account is password protected and there's also another acount which is my brother's.

I was under the impression that you needed to limit access to key OP system settings in order keep a rogue user from messing up other important settings like the registry or the control panel. That is what the Group Policy Editor is for.

As far as file access goes, If the Users accounts are located on the local machine you should be able to just right click the file, then choose "share with", then choose "specific people" then right click the little down arrow and choose the User name you want to set permissions for. After that you can choose read or write or both read/write permissions for that particular file.

I'm not really sure what problems you might be having with it but it looks simple enough to me.

What about creating a group and add the account in it. Use the security permission of this group to allow or disallow accesses.

The only way to do this on win7 that has a chance of succeeding against a persistent sibling is to ensure that they do not have an administrator level account. once this is set up they should not have access to your files as a default. It also means that they will be less capable of messing system settings.
How you do this in a family setting is an issue that you will have to deal with - perhaps persuading your responsible adult(s) that this is a safety measure for your little brother. You can also control a standard user's access further using the parental controls built into win7

No intention to step on your toes just suggesting ways of implementing your suggestion in a family situation - always more difficult than aa commercial one

I just wish I had physical access to some of these machines instead of having the visualize everything which is next to impossible LOL.

And no toe's stepped on at all here, often times the correct answers need to be repeated many times in order for it to sink in. This is true even with me sometimes before I actually "get it".

OK, I' just realized that I've done it but I don't know how.
I check the properties of my folder and it denies access and I checked files inside and they don't have any setting changed which is what I wanted.

You probably just needed to reboot the machine for the new settings to take hold.
