User accounts Administrator change

Okay so this is my problem; About two weeks ago my mother got to keep a laptop from work because she was moving schools and it was "outdated".

It was on a school domain so it had her login from the schools.
At the login page all i had to do was type "name.name" and the password and that was fine. She did not use the laptop anymore so she gave it to me.

Even though she was a administrator i was getting sick of logining in as her all the time so i tried to create a new account. I want in to controle pannel and tried to make one but it came up with domain and user name. i tried to create a account but it was saying the trustrelationship with this domain and Lt-D-8JK12S
(the laptop) were denied.

I went through another way to create a account through some workgroup thing , it worked. When i had to log on i would have to type Lt-D-8Qjk12S\username
and password

It only happened about two days ago that it started to have some problems.
I could only log on to my account even though it had many different users in the
laptops hard drive. it would say that i got my password wrong when i tried to type
them in.

the main problem is that i cant do anything because i am not an administrator and i kept being denied when trying making system changes and copy files on to a memory stick.

So plese help me if you can cause i really need it.

Since you know how to log in with your mom's admin account that should give you access to those settings. Who are all the other users?
As admin why not delete the password, problem gone.

The school IT department should have removed the password and all school records before releasing the computer.

There's an easy and legit solution to this. Copy off any data you want to keep, and then do a clean install of your OS of choice. Assuming the story is legit, the school's IT people made a huge and basic error in giving her the laptop "as-is".

This. Also, it does seem weird that they would give it to her as-is. A highschool in my area used to loan all of its students laptops throughout the school year. Everyone used the same computer all four years and when you graduated you could choose to purchase the laptop at a really low price, but it would have no hard drive. They had the shop class drill through each hard drive with a drill press before throwing them away.

Wow windows 7 is pricey, does anyone recommend another OS. Being 14 and all I need something in a affordable budget.

Ubuntu is a really good OS in my opinion and is free.

Also, does the computer have a product key sticker on it?

Yes it has a asset number, a serial number and it says ****schools.net.

But does it have a sticker that says some thing like "Windows 7 Professional Dell OEM Product Key". Followed by a 25 random numbers and letters, and have a bar code?

It sounds like you do not have a product key, so you will have to buy either a full copy of Windows 7 (not an upgrade copy) or user a version of linux, like Ubuntu.

afterlooking everywhere for it i found it! It was in the battery slot. So what can i do now with it?

If you can borrow or make a copy of a friends OEM installation DVD, or download an ISO file to burn, you can try this.

Just install the version listed on the COA sticker. The product code is good for 32 bit or 64 bit, its your choice which one you want to use.

There are plenty of download spots available, so if you search for MyDigitalLife, you'll find them....and they are legit, as they are right from Microsoft. Download the version and language that your product key is for, and then you can wipe the drive and do a clean install.
