Solved User Accounts

Has anyone here ever heard of using 2 user accounts for cookies etc. For example, you use the main account for accessing the net and everything else and you call the other user account called internet which then saves cookies from the other account etc. I do not believe this my self.

I use multiple user accounts, although not for that reason. I want to keep my work and private accounts separate, from software I use to bookmarks and favorites. These both accounts are in English (I'm using Enterprise edition with language packs), I also have additional Finnish and Swedish accounts for occasional work related reasons.

So four accounts for me, plus one Admin account and a German account for my wife's occasional need to use my computer.

I believe this was sort of common in Windows XP because there was not much to protect a computer while browsing the Internet. I know that several places I worked for had us setup something like this for the company. However with Internet Explorer 7 and now Internet Explorer 8 and all its security, I don’t really see the need for it. In Windows 7 it is even less of a worry unless you are logging on as a Full Administrator and/or turning off protected mode in IE. Was there something other than security you were trying to accomplish?

I can understand having one account just for internet purposes and another account for offline purposes.

Yes I have done this too. You can create a new account and make it a standard user, and then surf the net all you want. Very safe this way and keeps your profile clean of all the cache files.

More than one account is pointless. Do you want to type a password (which you know) rather that carefully considering a UAC prompt in a normal account?

Normal administrator account you click yes after reviewing the prompt.

I have 3 accounts, and I am the only users. One account (mine) is stardard; used to surf the net etc. The other 2 are administrator (in case one gets corrupted etc), I use to run as administrator etc. Works for me, and I think that it is a very good safeguard to keep the nasties out of my administrator account.
