User files garbled on system restore after "User profile service fai

Hello,

On another thread, I've been having hardware issues (New motherboard; system will not boot; cannot find windows; no BCD Solved - Page 2 - Windows 7 Help Forums).

In the process of getting back up, I had the "User Profile service failed the login, user profile cannot be loaded" error and couldn't log in at all.

I booted to safe mode and did a system restore. This let me log in with my profile again. All system files, programs etc are intact.

However, all my data files (docs, pictures etc) are garbled and unreadable. File names have a string of random characters followed by .js extension.

Please tell me there is a way to recover my data?

Help!

First we need more information.

I noticed you changed your motherboard and AMD cpu to a Gigabyte (Intel) cpu.

Um no! :(

My trials and troubles as noted in the other thread were to simply get booted back after the hardware change, with the recovery disk. I don't have the windows7 media anymore. I planned on upgrading to windows 10 once the system was back up... which it is now, sans my data

I realize all this sounds like a terrible idea to begin with - and I now have a long list of my mistaken assumptions.

I'll post the system specs details.

One thing I did notice, and maybe this is relevant, is that prior to the safe mode system restore, I was able to "see" my data in the dos cmd mode using "cd" and "dir" to the various directories. I checked that during one of my forays in the System Recovery "Repair and restart" command line tool.

Once you changed the motherboard and went from a AMD system to Intel system you must do
a Clean Install of Windows 7.
