I have a networked computer that has been inactive for a few months. When I try to log in with a network account, I receive the ""user profile service failed the logon" message. All suggestions to delete the corrupt profile do not apply, as this user has not previously logged into this machine. I tried to create a profile through credential manager, but that did not work. We are on a domain, so there are no locally saved user accounts. Regedit does not show corrupted profiles. I have seen references to an update that Windows may have installed that may cause this. Could this be true? Other references to disabling AV does not work asit starts automatically, as we also have encryption on our laptops.

I have reviewed that solution already. Unfortunately there is no temp profile to view in the registry as it has never been able to log in at all in windows. The laptop has had users log in previously who no longer work for the company. Any network user accounts trying to log in cannot get past this error. The only account that can log in are admin accounts.

A few points here:
* There is not a temporary profile I am trying to enter, but the first time for a user
* In regedit, there are NO profiles with .bak
* In regedit, the user is not listed that I am trying to log in with because it has never been able to log in
* Performing a system restore did not work, as Windows only displayed the Windows screen after logging in, without taskbar and icons, etc and I reverted back to the current restore point
* Previously the only solution I had available was to reimage the device, but prefer not to do that with this one as it has developer software already installed from the previous user
*** I have seen reference previously to a file and permissions as listed in another post on the same subject that I will try (Anyway my issue was a security/permissions issue with a file called iesqmdata_setup0.sqm in the directory C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM. By browsing to the machine remotely via the "$ share" method I changed the permissions on the enclosing folder to everyone and I was able to log in)***

Any thoughts if that doesn't work?
