Using 7 zip app

I have tried compressing some pics using the 7_ZIP app to email as WLM is still a problem child with large amounts of data. But I watched a tutorial video - followed it as best I could and the saved "zipped" file turned out to be 64MB which was composed of the Windows sample pics plus some I had taken (didn't know where to store them avoiding clutter).

The compressed file is roughly what the uncompressed data is originally and I don't know where I am going wrong. Plus one other thing is that the data was saved as a WinRAR file - why would that be as I have never downloaded it but remember a friend using it when we were on Teamviewer once. So have I got an app I don't need that is interfering with 7 - ZIP??

That happens when files are already compressed within themselves.

Meaning that the format of the file assumes compression inside that format.
JPG, MP3, common video formats and most of other popular formats of common data comes already copressed.

Your program works just fine. You can try to archive files that naturally come without compression - DOC, BMP. In that case only you will see the difference.

Ok Neutron I'll try a doc I just assumed (and one never should) that the 7 Zip would implode the 3 - 4MB JPEG file to something like a few KBs for the email as the WLM is just hopeless at sending more than say one or max two pics of that size with or without any text.

I use it to create thumbnails for images on my web pages.

Once you set the options just right click an image in Explorer and click Create Thumbnail.
