Hello all,
I use Windows 7 ultimate on my computer. And know that it's possible to use this OS as fax device to send and recieve faxes. I have an ADSL modem which the telephone line is attached to it and a splitter (just as other ADSL modem used in homes) is attached to the line socket on the wall. The ADSL modem is attached to the back of my case by an ethernet cable (which has provided the Internet for me) but whatever I look at the back of my case I don't see a port for pluging a telephone line socket into it! I think I don't have that classic modem (which was used for dial-up) installed on my motherboard. Now, is there any way to use the fax service of Windows 7 this way?

To send a fax directly you need a fax modem, NOT a ADSL modem. With the current availability of high speed Internet very few modern systems will have such a modem. They can still be purchased.

Lacking this there are a number of services where you can send a fax indirectly over the Internet. Some are free (for limited use) but I doubt that Windows fax service could use it. It may be possible with a commercial service.

To explain the response further, a Fax machine requires the Voice Carrier signal on the phone line. Phoneline DSL or ADSL uses other 'frequencies' on the phone line.

I use a FAX service called PamFAX to send faxes. I like it because there are no monthly subscription fees like many FAX services. You buy credits that don't expire and are charged $0.13 a page to send a FAX.

Is that fax modem that you are referring to that old modems which was installed on motherboard be default and had some port for plugging the phone line and we would plug the phone line socket and would use the dial-up Internet through it? Or that's something else?

A fax modem is a dial-up modem as used for Internet service but with special characteristics for fax use. Most such modems, but not all, will work for fax service. The description of the modem should clearly state that it is a fax modem.
