VMware? vCloud?

Things are changing: VMware shuffles deck with vCloud Air, vRealize changes

I'm still guessing at this point - any information about the computing environment is always welcome from your side of the monitor.

Not VMware
Not SSOlogin

Those were part of Vze IHA - and were essentially a red herring.

Let's go around the Domain Name Server and the host file

in your browser address field enter the octet address for Verizon.com
192.76.85.245

in your browser address field enter the octet address for Verizon.net
206.46.232.39

You can also open a Command Prompt and try
ping 192.76.85.245
ping 206.46.232.39

tracert 192.76.85.245
tracert 206.46.232.39

[post a screen sot of those commands]

then type
exit

+edit

Here are the results from my machine - looks like Versizon.com blocks tracert and ping at the edge to avoid denial of service attacks (my guess)

I am not familiar with SSO either. All I know is that I downloaded and installed the Verizon In Home Agent and double clicked the icon to launch and then a Verizon splash screen appeared (as seen in the background of my screenshot) with this new SSo window that doesn't load. I am just assuming it is part of the IHA. You can even see a small Verizon logo in the title bar of that window. My email address I am having problems is under Verizon.net and no affiliation or subdomain of Yahoo.

Thanks,

I thought the SSOlogin might have been part of IHA, but I wasn't sure.

And it's useful information on a Vze mail account too - it eliminates Yahoo credentials as a possible cause for eMail issues.

How about Ping and Tracert - what are you getting when you execute those commands?

All machines are affected - how is the network configured - do all machines go thorough a local server to get to the Internet?

Since this only seems to affect Verizon and both IE and FF have issues with the SSL side of Vze (but not other SSL pages), I'm going back to the idea that it is certificate based. If it were a router issue, I think other issues would be present - not specific to one site.

You can try to renew the cert for Vze, but first post the cert information as shown on your machine
Try to open https://www.verizon.com/foryourhome/myaccount/ngen/upr/nlogin.aspx in IE
Click on the lock if you can
x.PNG

Then click View Certificate - click the Certification Path tab and post that screen
x2.PNG

I'd also like to see the security settings in IE (Internet options->advanced tab)
Pay particular attention to the TLS, SSL, section.
IE_AdvTab-Security.png

After posting the requested information, you can try to clear the SSL cache

Internet Options -> Content tab -> Clear SSL state
Close and relaunch IE

Any change?

4.) Delete the IETemp directory (Folder) this is a hidden file: %TEMP%\TempIE: Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide
Where is the %Temp% folder located?
Here is a tutorial that can show you several ways to delete cookies; I'm offering you this because it can show how to do this through IE (Option Three), but make sure you only have the temporary internet files and cookies checked off (see attachment). I erred earlier when I said just temp files, you also need to remove the cookies:

Or you can use these: How to delete the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder There is a FixIt or you can do it manually.
You will also need to delete cookies: How to delete cookie files in Internet Explorer again, there is a FixIt or you can do it manually.

Thanks Steve,

By following your links I found some information that has eluded me since IE9 - the infamous IEtemp.
Note: I'm on Win8 and IE11, the folder name and location might differ under Win7, but the dialog will tell you what it is exactly.

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Browsing history Settings button
This dialog clearly shows the location and name of the folder.

Your welcome Bill,

Yes I have noticed the discrepancies in format, I'm not sure if its just the different versions of IE or if it's the OS's, I would believe the different OS's would have strong influence on the formatting.
I had enough problems getting IE10 running on win7, I really don't want to try 11.

Here's my location/settings:

Ok so many posts since I last checked here...
Cleared Temp IE files, cookies and reset SSL State. Now the Verizon site will open, but the dropdown login is still blank and Outlook not working for Verizon.
in your browser address field enter the octet address for Verizon.com
192.76.85.245
It loads but still has "blank" Login dropdown.

in your browser address field enter the octet address for Verizon.net
206.46.232.39
Displays "This page can't be displayed" after a minute or so

You can also open a Command Prompt and try
ping 192.76.85.245
ping 206.46.232.39
tracert 192.76.85.245
tracert 206.46.232.39
[post a screen sot of those commands]
then type
exit
results to attached...

All machines are affected - how is the network configured - do all machines go thorough a local server to get to the Internet?
We do not have a server. We have only 4 machines networked through basic windows networking, all connected to a lynksys router which is connected to our Optimum cable modem. (We have Optimum in out office, but the Verizon Fios account is for my home but like stated earlier that email account is used for work purposed also.)
You can try to renew the cert for Vze, but first post the cert information as shown on your machine
Try to open https://www.verizon.com/foryourhome/...pr/nlogin.aspx in IE
Click on the lock if you can
This link works... screen shot attached

Now here is a VERY interesting bit of information. I brought my home laptop into work today. This morning at home, on this laptop, everything worked fine as it always did. I come into work and connect it to my work network and low and behold, it has the same symptoms as all the other computers on the network. Thoughts???

edit:
Also tried my iPhone... I could NOT download any emails while connected to my work networks wifi, but as soon as I switched to cellular data (turned wifi off) my emails came in. The web site worked on the iPhone through wifi though.

ie11 has come a long way since being released,
ie10 on win-7 is still my preference but that's because of developer tools more than functionality of ie11,
Plus I don't like flash player being built into ie11 but that was to help people with keeping flash updated as you already know I'm sure ;)

I made this some time ago it's a little long winded but allot of my preferences are there as far as temp files and settings for cache and databases the new sections added to ie10 and ie11 that didn't exist in ie9 originally,
Internet explorer tweaks - Microsoft Community
Never had any issues with ie in general it is my only browser so it better work well :)
ie10 rules it never had a single issue from it's original pre-release date on my end ;)

I know you guys are the experts here but regarding the fact that my home laptop AND my iPhone have the same problems when connected to my work network but fine off of it; isn't that suggesting that the problem is not computer specific, but more network??? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't logic just state that?

Have you contacted the router and modem manufacture support to completely reset it ?
I personally if you haven't already leave and reestablish the network,
It's a tough test but is there another modem/ router to test with ?

Now here is a VERY interesting bit of information. I brought my home laptop into work today. This morning at home, on this laptop, everything worked fine as it always did. I come into work and connect it to my work network and low and behold, it has the same symptoms as all the other computers on the network. Thoughts???
I know you guys are the experts here but regarding the fact that my home laptop AND my iPhone have the same problems when connected to my work network but fine off of it; isn't that suggesting that the problem is not computer specific, but more network??? After seeing this, the problem is definitely with your work network. Follow Mike's (TZ's) suggestions about contacting the router and modem mfg's. and/or swapping the modem/router out for known good ones.

Check the manuals it sounds like they could both go for an ipconfigflush and winsock reset. Something similar to the tutorial in Mike's #7 post and Bill's #16, but try to stay with the manufacturer's version of doing it, Mike, Bill, you can overrule me, but I'd believe he should also do the flush and reset to the four machines he has.

Check to make sure their drivers are up to date. If your having problems finding them we might be able to help, but we'd need the exact model/series/version numbers, mfg, and the version of software installed on both the modem and router.

Thanks Buratti,

You saved me suggesting trying a laptop in the network.

This clearly points to the network, one of the reasons I asked if you had a server (controlling all machines Certs).

Can you post the model #s for the Linksys router and the Optimum cable modem?

And just so I'm clear, your provider is Verzion for work and home?
Or are you just taking advantage of the multiple Verizon eMail accounts offered by Verizon?
In other words what is the ISP at work?

This is not an eMail issue, but a network issue that only affects secure pages.

How many machines are at work? The one machine you were working on began to exhibit different behavior as we went through the exercise. First it could connect to the secure page, but after some changes could not - then after some additional changes, it could again. The secure parts of the page (login drop down) has not worked through all of this.

I ask because I want to make sure that the other machine(s) exhibit the 'can connect, but not display the secure parts' behavior. Just a sanity check for my part - you sort of answered that in your laptop test.

Try connecting your laptop (easiest) directly to the Optimum router - can you get to Verizon.net and eMail?

Then you could, as Mike suggested, power cycle the two network devices.

Power down the Linksys, then power down the Optimum
Wait 5 minutes then
Power up the Optimum
wait for it to cycle with the ISP (5-10 minutes)
then power up the Linksys.

Bill

To be through I would flush them all sure wouldn't hurt anything the network is already corrupted somehow

This is a pretty good example to never have a machine without a password for each and every user account,
And disable the Guest user accounts on all machines ;)
Also have a password for your wireless network,

Restricted sites lists do not get deleted when resetting ie,
I doubt you can single out one email address though,

Buratti, you've done great answering our questions, running the tests, and posting the output. It makes a big difference.

Thanks for the expert title, but I'm just someone who has fixed computer issues one step at a time. The issue in your computing environment seems to go outside the norm.

Optimum is a fairly generic word - and a search for an Optimum cable modem turned up too many for me to make a determination.

Is Optimum your work ISP? Do you have an Optimum Business account?
And so I'm clear, Optimum is a branded offering from Cablevision - yes?

Try this link (Optimum login) - takes you to their dashboard where and admin can configure different features.

Thanks for all the help so far. I left work before I saw any of the updates so haven tried anything yet. Going to jump around in answering the new questions. In all honesty I haven't even tried a router reset yet. Was going to earlier today but other people using network and internet, so couldn't. Tomorrow will be easier to disconnect the network for a little bit.

Is Optimum your work ISP? Do you have an Optimum Business account?
And so I'm clear, Optimum is a branded offering from Cablevision - yes?
Yes its my Work ISP (and phone service) with a business account and is a service of Cablevision. I have Verizon Fios as my ISP at home and just use my home/personal email address (only one) that I got with Verizon and use it for work also.

If a standard reset to factory defaults does not fix anything I will try this, but I may need assistance on how to do this for my router... Will let you know tomorrow.

Router model number: Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G
Will have to post back tomorrow with modem model number.

I'm curious though - this is a single site issue (Verizon) and specifically only secure pages.
So far the only site that has had this problem is Verizon. I haven't really browsed that many other sites but the few I have had no problems whatsoever.

Restricted sites lists do not get deleted when resetting ie,
I doubt you can single out one email address though,
Internet options/ Security/ Restricted sites Icon/ Sites button/ Is there any entries there I believe I asked already but if not please review the restricted sites list on all computers :/
Nothing listed in the restricted sites in IE

How many machines are at work? The one machine you were working on began to exhibit different behavior as we went through the exercise. First it could connect to the secure page, but after some changes could not - then after some additional changes, it could again. The secure parts of the page (login drop down) has not worked through all of this.

I ask because I want to make sure that the other machine(s) exhibit the 'can connect, but not display the secure parts' behavior. Just a sanity check for my part - you sort of answered that in your laptop test.
4 machines total at work. You are completely correct with your recap and understanding. All other machines "can connect, but no dropdown" symptoms.

Will bring laptop again tomorrow and also try connecting it directly to modem (if router reset doesn't work). Will keep you updated more tomorrow.

On a side note, as much as I do want to correct this problem, I'm going to feel stupid if it comes down to a simple router reset correcting the problem. That is actually one of the first things I thought of before I even started this post, but slipped my mind when we started looking into advanced methods.

Yea we try to narrow down the possibilities first before disrupting the network from everyone in the office,
Reset both Modem and router if separate units disconnect all machines when doing so,
Set up the network with just the main computer connected and confirm you can access this interesting email service :)
If successful you can start connecting other machines one at a time testing along the way to make sure nothing funny happens ;)

On a side note, as much as I do want to correct this problem, I'm going to feel stupid if it comes down to a simple router reset correcting the problem. ...

Me too ;)

Speaking of feeling stupid ...

Before doing a router power cycle, try this:

Configure the network adapter on one machine to use a different DNS
Use the Google public DNS (primary and alternate)

The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
NetDNS.PNG

The Google Public DNS IPv6 addresses are as follows:
2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844

Restart the machine (might not be necessary-but simple things often obscure the issue)
Then try the Verizon login page (MY Verizon)
https://www.verizon.com/foryourhome/myaccount/ngen/upr/nlogin.aspx
