Does anyone know if there's a way to fix this LCD screen? It's a 28" screen that is out of warranty. Sometimes it shows 3, sometimes 2 vertical red lines.

Here's a picture I just took (sorry for the dust):

It's definitely a monitor issue? Have you tried a different display to rule the monitor out?

I think it's the graphics card or Windows itself. If it were the screen, the red lines would be going through the taskbar as well, and they aren't. Either something in the Windows background is corrupted, or the graphics card is being told to put those lines there.

re: Vertical red lines across LCD display Reply to Thread

You are 100% right Mellon Head. It is ether the graphics card is going bad or something in Windows is telling graphics card to put the lines up on the screen. I don't think there is any Windows files that are corrupted. It also mite be a virus, malware or a trojan horse. I have a Toshiba laptop with the same vertical lines on the built in screen, even on the taskbar. But the Toshiba laptop works fine on an external monitor.

The gateway laptop model MD2614U died because a voltage regulator on the motherboard went poof. The Gateway laptop has been scraped.
Thank you fellas. No, it is not a video card or Windows, or malware. That picture doesn't show it well. Those lines go through everything, including the taskbar. I also tried it with another computer and the issue remained.

I'm sad to say, but I don't think I can fix it myself. The screen is now in my garage, and I'll probably throw it out as soon as my wife discovers it...

Yeah, that's unfortunate. An LCD panel is not something that you can fix yourself. I was hoping it would be something simple and not too costly to fix.
